Most Holy Body & Blood of Christ
FROM OUR PASTOR
Dear St. Charles Parishioners,
This weekend our youth are asking our support for their workcamp outreach.
This is an opportunity for our young people to put their faith into
action. So buy a nail
This past week I celebrated my 38th year of ordination and give thanks
for the opportunity to serve at St. Charles. It is a joy for me to collaborate
with our lay leadership; our volunteers; the outstanding staff of the
Parish Office and our School and my brother priests; Fr. O'Hara, Mullins
and Ukwe. Fr. Avella has been assigned as Pastor of Our Lady of Lourdes.
We will miss the service he provided to his home parish on Saturday
evenings.
We celebrate with the Latin American community today as our children
receive their 1st Eucharist. Gilda Ferer returned to Panama this week.
She has been coordinator of our Latin American Community and an example
of the spirit of St. Charles.
To Fr. Bob and Gilda we say Vaya con Dios and to all our fathers,
those living and those past we say Thank You.
Gerry Creedon

LAST MEETING AT ST. CHARLES
The Children of God's Love prayer group has had many exciting times
here at St. Charles, they've also enkindled passionate faith in many
of our parishioners who have gone on to accomplish great things for
the Lord: missions, preaching, vocations, advocacy, tending to the needy,
etc. Now, the time has come to join forces with the prayer group at
St. James. We will meet with them in St. James parish hall (near the
gym) on Wednesday from 7:30 - 9pm. BUT FIRST; COGL will have a lively,
festive, and powerful last meeting in the St. Charles Chapel 7:30-9:00
pm on June 22nd. All are welcome, Enjoy it! This is a "Last Dance."
we'll go out for food afterward to continue celebrating.

DAILY REFLECTIONS AND CATHOLIC HEADLINES
As we compile the results from last month's online survey on the parish
website, www.stcharleschurch.org, we saw several parishioners who requested
access to daily reflections or readings, such as Mobile Gabriel. Good
news - this information is already available by selecting the "Faith
& Sacraments" category at the top of our webpages. You'll
also find daily Catholic headlines there and access to sacramental
information, such as marriage preparation.
Still can't find what you're looking for online? Our Google-based search
engine is just a click away by selecting "Search/Help"
so give it a try next time you're visiting the parish website.
RELIGIOUS EDUCATION
SURVEY
Registration information for 2006-2007 for preschool-Grade 6 will be
available as soon as a final decision is made concerning class sessions
for our Grade Based Program. All parents of preschool through rising
6th graders please fill out an on-line survey to help us determine the
possibility of offering a weekday session next year in addition to Sundays.

YOUTH MINISTRY REGISTRATION
Registration information for 2006-2007 for graders 7-12 will be available
mid-June. Please note that Confirmation preparation generally takes
place during the 8th grade year. We ask that those young people interested
in Confirmation enroll in religious education during their 7th grade
year.
THANK YOU FROM BORROMEO HOUSING
On May 20, 2006, Borromeo Housing held our annual fund-raiser for our
transitional housing program, Elizabeth House. Elizabeth House is an
Arlington-based Second Chance Home program that provides a healthy,
nurturing environment for our community's most fragile families: homeless
adolescent mothers and their babies. The young women who reside with
us have experienced the devastation of poverty, homelessness and neglect,
which are compounded further by problems of teen pregnancy, incomplete
education, and poor life skills. BHI provides the safe shelter and counseling
these girls need in order to become productive, contributing women and
mothers. This year's annual reception, silent auction and dance was
a wonderful success, raising over $12,000 for our shelter and our program!
We want to say a special thanks to the parishioners, clergy and staff
of St. Charles for all of your help and support. It is only through
your grace and generosity that we at BHI may continue to change lives.
Blessings, Joy Myers, Executive Director, Borromeo Housing, Inc. www.borromeohousing.org

Service & Justice
JUSTFAITH GROUPS FORMING FOR
THE FALL
We are called to be compassionate as our God is compassionate. (Luke
6:36). What does the compassion of Christ look like in the modern world?
How do I become a more compassionate person? The JustFaith Program is
an intensive 30-week program that helps answer these questions through
reflection, study, prayer, and community. Contact Sharon Wahl, 202-258-5072
or Jason Albritton, e-mail justfaith@stcharleschurch.org
or 703-276-7565
FOOD PANTRY NEEDS
As schools close for summer vacation, many of the children whose families
we serve will no longer be receiving free/reduced lunches at school.
Our food pantry will help to fill some of this void. At the present
time, our pantry is especially in need of: Cereal, Grape Jelly, Evaporated/Powdered
Milk, Spaghetti, (regular), Small bags of Rice, Cookies, Crackers (snack
items for children), Jello/Pudding/Applesauce, Canned Fruit and Chunky
Soups. Also, for the homeless population that we serve we are in need
of: Pop-top cans of tuna, fruit, etc, cereal/granola bars, juice boxes,
snacks. We appreciate any food donation that you can make. Thank you.
AIDS OUTREACH: AFRICA MINISTRY EVENT
On Tuesday, June 27th, Gail Goodridge will be speaking on behalf of
the AIDS Outreach: Africa Ministry
at 7:30pm in Benedict Hall. Gail is currently working in Kenya, and
is the ministry's liaison to the Riara AIDS Project. Gail will present
a video of the children of the Riara AIDS Project and she will talk
about the various efforts that the parish's generous donations have
been supporting at Riara. Additionally, there will be a display of paintings
created by the children of the Riara AIDS Project. Light refreshments
will be served. We hope to see you there! If you have any questions,
please contact Carol Lynn Gulino at clgulino@hotmail.com.
