Holy Trinity
FROM OUR PASTOR
Dear St. Charles Parishioners,
This weekend Kevin Fimian and Jamie Workman are among the seven candidates
for ordination. They both served here at St. Charles and we offer them
our congratulations and our prayers.
Pedro Mateo, a seminarian from our sister Diocese of San Juan de la
Maguana (in the Dominican Republic parish of St. Francis in Banica where
Fr. Jack and I served) is spending two months with us learning English.
Offer him a warm welcome: Bienvenido!
May the Spirit of Pentecost inspire all of us to renew our commitment
to use our office and charismas to build up our church! Feel the Spirit!
Feel the Spirit!
Gerry Creedon

PARISH WEBSITE GETS 400 VISITS PER DAY IN MAY
Last month our parish website, www.StCharlesChurch.org, averaged 400
visits per day, down from an Easter-induced 543 in April. The average
visitor looks at about 6 pages during a visit. As usual, "housing
blessing" was the most popular search term that led to our
site, followed by variations on "St. Charles Arlington." Only
about 13 percent of our traffic last month came from a search engine
like Google, however; the vast majority type in the address directly
or have the site bookmarked. The most popular pages in May were perennial
favorites: the calendar, home
page, celebrant's schedule,
house blessing and news.
The most visited ministries were C'YA,
RCIA, education,
social justice and liturgy.
Help keep our numbers up by checking us out next time you are online!
RELIGIOUS EDUCATION
SURVEY
Registration information for 2006-2007 for preschool-Grade 6 will be
available as soon as a final decision is made concerning class sessions
for our Grade Based Program. All parents of preschool through rising
6th graders please fill out an on-line survey to help us determine the
possibility of offering a weekday session next year in addition to Sundays.

YOUTH MINISTRY REGISTRATION
Registration information for 2006-2007 for graders 7-12 will be available
mid-June. Please note that Confirmation preparation generally takes
place during the 8th grade year. We ask that those young people interested
in Confirmation enroll in religious education during their 7th grade
year.

Service & Justice
PROJECT LAZARUS
Project Lazarus is the name given to St. Charles' special fund to help
people with emergency needs. Through this fund, St. Charles offers assistance
to local residents. Most often, people need help paying rent, utility,
and medical expenses. Please consider making a special donation to Project
Lazarus.
Thanks to your generosity, Project Lazarus was able to help a single
mother of two avoid eviction by helping with $250 of her late rental
payment. She had been on maternity leave without pay for 6 weeks and
therefore was struggling to meet all her expenses. She has now returned
to her job and hopes to be back on track. For more information on how
you can help Project Lazarus, contact Jo-Ann Duggan at jduggan@stcharleschurch.org.
GROCERY GIFT CARDS
Project Lazarus is in need of grocery gift cards from Giant, Safeway
or Harris Teeter. We give these cards to individuals or families who
are struggling to make ends meet to help supplement their food budgets.
Please consider purchasing these gift-cards and dropping them off at
the Parish Office. We would prefer smaller denominations---$10, $15
or $20 cards. Thank you.
OVER 50 AND INTERESTED IN SERVING THE POOR
Volunteer two days a week with the materially poor and grow spiritually
through the Ignatian Volunteer Corps. Wide range of skills needed, for
example, handymen, nursing, tutoring, grandparenting, etc. To learn
more, attend information session at June 27, 2006 at 7:30 pm, Rm 104
Parish Center. Contact Jim Kelley at 703-533-1897 or Jean Sweeney at
703-685-7410 or visit www.ilvc.org.
PORTO CARAVAN'S ANNUAL COLLECTION FOR GOD'S SPECIAL CHILDREN
Bishop Loverde has once again endorsed Porto Caravan, Order of Alhambra's
"Special Kids, Special Needs Collection" on behalf of developmentally
challenged youth within the diocese. Next Sunday there will be a second
collection to assist special education programs such as the Paul VI
High School Options Program, the Helen Keller Institute, Catholic Special
Religious Education, Gabriel Homes, and the "Keyboard for Kids"
program which provides audio/visual communication capability to special
needs students. The Bishop has sanctioned this collection as a blessing
for God's Special Children, their families and this entire diocese.
Please be generous in your support of this worthwhile endeavor.
PARISH SUPPORT
Financial information regarding the collections will be included in
next week's bulletin.
