First Sunday of Lent
FROM THE PASTOR
Dear St. Charles Parishioners,
Lent provides us a call to renew our faith before we celebrate the
feast of Easter.
We are invited to deepen our prayer life. See the website for additional
devotional events. Let us be sure to do a grace before meals at least
once a week, especially on Friday. You may enrich your prayer life by
using our Lenten Reflection Booklets.
We are called to fast and abstain. The Rice Bowl provides us a new
way of continuing an ancient discipline. We may have a lesser meal during
Lent as a household, perhaps a Friday, and contribute our savings to
Operation Rice Bowl for development projects of Catholic Relief Services.
A quarter of our parish proceeds will support our own Africa/Aids project.
Be sure to pick up your booklets and Rice Bowls at the doors.
Your sacrifices to the Bishop's
Diocesan Lenten Appeal are much appreciated.
We are called to share faith and to learn. See our small groups schedule
on the web. On Saturday mornings at 8:00 am I will lead a scripture
reflection group in Parish Library. This is open to all.
Let us "Thirst for justice, hunger for peace."
Gerry Creedon

PROJECT LAZARUS
- St. Charles runs an Emergency Assistance Program called Project
Lazarus.
- The program help people of our community who are facing financial
crisis when other agencies may not be able to do so.
- Sometimes people need more money to get through a crisis than one
agency can provide, so a number of agencies coordinate their resources
to help the individuals or families in need.
- Some of the agencies that work with Project Lazarus to coordinate
their resources include the Department of Human Services, The Hispanic
Committee, Community Residences, and Catholic Charities.
- With the help of Project Lazarus many families have avoided eviction
and because of Project Lazarus there are many people who used to live
on the streets but now have apartments.
- Next week's tithe (March 12) will go to Project Lazarus so you
will have the opportunity to help this important ministry by making
a generous offering in the first collection. You may also donate any
time by boldly printing on the memo line of your check For Project
Lazarus. Thank you for your generosity.
JEWELRY PARTY
Come out for a Jewelry Party hosted by St. Charles' Teens for Life on
