Fifth Sunday in Ordinary Time
FROM THE PASTOR
Dear St. Charles Parishioners,
This weekend we will hear about faith sharing groups for Lent. As the
parish increase in size we need opportunities for our members to come
to know one another and to share faith. I hope you give this program
your consideration.
I thank the Social Justice
Committee and Latinos Unidos de San Carlos for participating with
our bishops in Catholic Advocacy Day in Richmond last week to promote
just wages, the right of immigrants to an opportunity for higher education,
and other life and justice issues. A big Thank You to our school staff
and volunteers who assisted with our best attended Polka Party. Events
such as these along with the new Diocesan Tuition Assistance Program
help remove financial barriers to participating in our great school
for families of lesser means. Catholic School week promoted school enrollment.
Come by our School Office if you have any questions.

conversation on "Catholic teachings on war and peace in light of
Iraq and other conflicts". (Moved from 2/5)
HAITI COMMITTEE
Ticket Sales for Haiti Carnaval
on sale after Masses February 4-5th and Feb. 11-12th. Come join us for
a celebration on Feb. 18th following the 5pm Mass. Tickets are $15,
children under six are free.
ANOTHER PLACE FOR DONATIONS
Thank you all for your generous donations! St. Charles is short on space
and can not accept furniture or clothing donations. Please take these
items to the Arlington Goodwill, 10 South Glebe Road, intersection of
50 and Glebe, and bring us your donation receipt. The receipt is then
turned into vouchers for OAR (Offender Aid and Restoration of Arlington
County) clients. They use the vouchers to get clothing for job interviews,
and to get back on their feet once released. This way we can all work
together for the poor. Thank you.
SPONSOR OF THE WEEK: Our thanks to Bob & Tricia Clark
Arlington's Favorite Realtors for Their support.

LENT 2006 SMALL FAITH GROUPS
This weekend we will begin to organize small faith-sharing groups in
anticipation for Lent. Groups will meet in homes or at the parish once
a week for 5-6 weeks beginning the week of March 5. Make plans to make
this a special Lent by getting to know God, yourself, and others a little
better. Specify a particular interest in meeting with other young adults,
couples, singles, parents, seniors, or a mixed group. Group facilitators
and home-hosts are also needed. See the cards at the Church entrances
for more info, call 703-527-5500 x115, or email adultfaith@stcharleschurch.org
with any questions. Let's prepare our hearts for Easter!
ST. CHARLES OPEN
HOUSE OF FAITH
Invite your friends and neighbors to visit St. Charles! This Tuesday,
February 7, St. Charles will open its doors to the Arlington community
and present "A Brief Introduction All Ages." The evening will
feature short talks, a Q&A session, and a tour of the Church with
Fr. Charles Ukwe. Refreshments and fellowship will follow in Benedict
Hall. People of all ages and backgrounds are welcome. For more information,
pick up a flyer at one of the Church Entrance or contact Janice Lent
at interfaith@stcharleschurch.org,
or 202-366-8966 (days).
CHECK YOUR SUPER PARISH SITE ON SUPER BOWL SUNDAY
Visit your parish website, www.StCharlesChurch.org, on Super Bowl Sunday--or
any other day--to keep connected to your Catholic community. We've got
a strong front line with headlines on the homepage on you can call a
timeout to see what's coming up on the February calendar.
If you like to huddle, try out our marriage
tips from long-married parishioners. And our quarterback Fr. Creedon
is calling audibles, known online as his homily
summaries. There's something new each week
so make sure visiting the site is in your playbook.
ST. CHARLES CARES
The Circle of Caring provides many
services to the St. Charles community including:
--Homebound Visits: A visit from a Eucharist Minister each week, bringing
the Eucharist; a First Friday visit form one of the priest of the parish;
social visits from other parishioners, phone call visits, ride to medical
appointments, Mass, senior luncheons and other church functions. --Prayer
Tree -- Cards to homebound and sick
--Funeral planning. The Circle also provides ways for parishioners to
support the St. Charles community by:
· Volunteering to help.
· Informing the Circle of any need that there might be within
our community by contacting Peter Dirr at pdirr@cox.net
703-237-0627 or the office.
FOOD PANTRY
"One thing you lack," Jesus said. "Go, sell everything
you have and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven.
Then come, follow me." Mk 10:21
Our pantry shelves are bare. Please bring non-perishable items to the
Parish Office. Most needed items include: Tuna fish, peanut butter,
jelly, rice, spaghetti, soup, vegetables, cereal, macaroni & cheese,
canned beans, canned meals like Chef Boyardee, spam, canned salmon,
and canned chicken. Your donations are desperately needed and appreciated.
Many thanks!
JUST NEIGHBOR PROGRAM
The Just Neighbor Program will meet again on Wednesdays, February 8
and Feb 22, examining the relationship between race and poverty. The
February 8th meeting will consider the past, present, and future of
race relations and U.S. public policy and why people of color are disproportionately
represented among the ranks of those who are poor. At the February 22nd
meeting Fr. Tuozzolo, pastor of Our Lady Queen of Peace Church, will
present his experiences of how the Church relates to this public policy
of race relations as a priest and pastor in Harlem and South Arlington.
Both meetings will be one hour in length beginning at 7:30 PM in the
St. Charles Parish Library. All are welcome. Please call Dan VanBelleghem
at 703-525-4565 for more information. Registration is free.
