Fourth Sunday in Ordinary Time

FROM THE PASTOR
Dear St. Charles Parishioners,

The 2006 Bishop's Lenten Appeal begins. Bishop Loverde has written a personal letter to many of you this week. Please take the time to review it.
Fr. Jack O'Hara and I have served in Catholic Charities and our Diocesan Mission in the Dominican Republic. Fr. Mullins serves the diocesan Spanish Apostolate and Mulit-Cultural Ministries. Fr. Charles helps families through the Diocesan Tribunal. Currently I serve as Chair of the Diocesan Peace and Justice Commission and VA Catholic Conference. All these programs are supported by the Bishop's Lenten Appeal.

Join our ministries by offering your financial support.

"In Justice, in Love and In Mercy" is this year's theme. Through your giving, you support these values.
Rev. Gerry Creedon

Jan 29: Fourth Sunday in Ordinary Time - Jesus Heals
This is a wonderful week to use the brief background times of our lives to talk with the Lord about our need for healing. We can begin each day by naming some desire we have for healing and deeper wholeness and peace. Putting these desires into words, early each day, as soon as we get up or while in the shower or while dressing, helps us give focus to our relationship with the Lord that day.
From Daily Prayer at www.creighton.edu/CollaborativeMinistry/Prayer/. Visit them for more reflection on the Sunday readings and a guide for prayer for the week.
(we also have links to other readings/reflections on our parish site)

ANOTHER PLACE FOR DONATIONS
Thank you all for your generous donations! St. Charles is short on space and can not accept furniture or clothing donations. Please take these items to the Arlington Goodwill, 10 South Glebe Road, intersection of 50 and Glebe, and bring us your donation receipt. The receipt is then turned into vouchers for AOR (Offender Aid and Restoration of Arlington County) clients. They use the vouchers to get clothing for job interviews, and to get back on their feet once released. This way we can all work together for the poor. Thank you.

Social Justice & Service

FOOD PANTRY
"No one may claim the name of Christian and be comfortable in the face of hunger, homelessness, insecurity, and injustice found in this country and the world." -Economic Justice for All (#27) Justice means removing the causes of poverty but while we work for justice we must also provide for those who are hungry now. Please bring a food donation each week when you come to Mass. We are low of food. We especially need: Tuna fish, peanut butter, jelly, rice, spaghetti, soup, vegetables, cereal, macaroni & cheese, canned beans, meals like Chef Boyardee, spam, canned salmon, and canned chicken.

Did you know?

  • St. Charles runs an Emergency Assistance Program called Project Lazarus.
  • The programs helps people of our community face financial crisis when other agencies may not be able to do so.
  • Sometimes people need more money to get through a crisis than one agency can provide, so a number of agencies coordinate their resources to help the individuals or families in need.
  • Some of the agencies that work with Project Lazarus to coordinate their resources include the Department of Human Services, the Hispanic Committee, Community Residences, and Catholic Charities.
  • With the help of Project Lazarus many families have avoided eviction and because of Project Lazarus there are many people who used to live on streets but now have apartments.
  • No one individual or agency can change the world but we must all do our part.

Next week (February 5) the tithe will go to Project Lazarus, this means that you will have the opportunity to help Project Lazarus by making a generous offering in the first collection. Please support this important endeavor with utmost generosity. Thank you.
