Second Sunday in Ordinary Time
FROM THE PASTOR
Dear St. Charles Parishioners,
On Monday we remember the legacy of Martin Luther King, Jr. who challenges
us all: "Our lives begin to end the day we become silent about
things that matter." Let us not be silent but speak up for peaceful
and creative ways to live, love, and yes, to disagree.
On Wednesday we begin the annual week of prayer for Christian Unity.
Given the challenges of all that divides us as the body of Christ, let
us dedicate ourselves to pray and work for unity among Christians. Most
Catholics are probably unaware of the important work and dialog between
the US Bishops and leaders of other Christian, Muslim, and Jewish faiths.
For more on this visit the US Bishops' Secretariat for Ecumenical and
Interreligious Affairs at www.usccb.org/seia.
Peace to you.
Jan 15: Second Sunday in Ordinary Time
Readings: 1 Sm 3:3b-10,19; 1 Cor 6:13c-15a,1720; Jn 1:35-42
"Speak, for your servant is listening." This week begins with
a picture of the call of the first disciples of Jesus in the Fourth
Gospel. The first words of Jesus in this gospel are: "What are
you looking for?" The disciples ask, literally, "Where do
you make your home?" Jesus responds, "Come and see."
The rest of the gospel tells of how he makes his home in us and invites
us to make our home in him.
For more reflection on the Sunday readings and a guide for prayer for
the week go to: www.creighton.edu/CollaborativeMinistry/Prayer/
(we also have links to other readings/reflections
on our parish site).
