First Sunday of Advent
FROM THE PASTOR
Dear St. Charles Parishioners,
Our Advent calendar is available on the
web and Advent booklets are distributed this weekend. Let these four
weeks of preparation for the coming of the Light of the World be a time
of growth in faith. I suggest that the advent wreath be a center of
devotion for each household. Let us admit Christ into our family circle
as we pray and serve together.
Jesus came in the poverty of Bethlehem. This coming Sunday December
4, at 7:00 PM we reflect on the link between poverty and AIDS on the
continent of Africa, and offer hope through our Parish Africa/Aids Outreach.
Come and be a part of our conversation.
Peace,

IT'S THE 1ST SUNDAY OF ADVENT!
Days grow shorter. The dark of night grows longer and more intense.
A spirit of expectation begins to pick up momentum. It is obvious that
something wonderful is about to happen. But before we celebrate Christmas,
we pause for 4 weeks of reflection and prayer. Someone IS coming to
town! Prepare the Way of the Lord!
It's time to stop by your local Hallmark store, supermarket or drug
store and buy your advent wreath and candles. Or just find 4 candles
at home to use. Light one candle today as we move into our first week
of Advent. You may want to light the 1st candle each evening during
dinner or for your evening prayer.
Blessing of the Advent Wreath:
O God, by whose word all things are sanctified, pour forth your blessing
upon this wreath and grant that we who use it may prepare our hearts
for the Coming of Christ, and may receive your abundant graces. Through
Christ Our Lord. Amen
Prayer for the 1st week of Advent
O Emmanuel, Jesus Christ, desire of every nation,
Savior of all peoples, come and dwell among us.
From the book Catholic Customs and Traditions by Dues as well as website
of Women for Faith and Families, and the Passionist Missionaries
