Christ the King

FROM THE PASTOR
The feast of Christ the King completes the liturgical year with the celebration of the Lordship of Jesus. "Thy Kingdom Come!" is our familiar prayer. Christ's reign brings peace, truth, justice and love. The purpose of the Church is to advance this kingdom. Today's second collection for the Catholic Campaign for Human Development brings his good news of liberation to the poor of the land. Thanks for supporting the self help projects of CCHD.

We look forward next Sunday to the beginning of Advent, our preparation for the Prince of Peace, the light of the world. Our symbol is the circle, evident in the Advent wreath and the Celtic cross. We celebrate Christ's cosmic redemption. Please make use of our Advent Calendar.

Yours is the Kingdom,
Rev. Gerry Creedon
PS: Mark December 4 at 7 PM on your calendar for a Coversation with Creedon on AIDS/Africa Outreach.

The PARISH OFFICE will be closed Nov 24 and 25 in observance of Thanksgiving and SUNDAY NURSERY will be closed Thanksgiving weekend

A Thanksgiving Prayer

God and Father of all gifts,
We praise you,
the source of all we have and are.
Teach us to acknowledge always the many good things your infinite love has given us. Help us to love you with all our heart and all our strength. Amen

From Opening Prayer - Roman Missal - Mass of Thanksgiving

ANSWERS TO THE KNOW YOUR FAITH QUIZ
Q1: We are coming to a close of another Church Liturgical Year. When does the new Liturgical Year begin?
A1: The new Liturgical Year begin with the 1st Sunday of Advent, 4 weeks before Christmas.

Q2: There are 3 cycles of Sunday Mass scripture readings, cycles A, B, & C. Which cycle are we in now?
A2: We are now in Sunday cycle A and will begin cycle B on Sunday, Nov. 27.

Q3: There are 2 cycles of Weekday Mass scripture readings, cycles I and II. Which cycle are we in now?
A3: We are now in weekday cycle I and will move into cycle II on Monday, Nov. 28. (One easy way to remember the weekday cycle is during even years (2006) we are in weekday cycle II. During odd years (2005) we are in weekday cycle I.

Q4: When does the season of Advent begin?
A4: This year the date is Sunday, Nov. 27…the 1st Sunday of Advent.

Q5: The season of Advent is associated with specific colors that we may see around the Church and worn by the celebrant at Mass. Which colors are these?
A5: Usually some shade of purple. Some communities use more of an indigo deep blue to also remind us of the role of Mary and her own "waiting" for the Christ child, her own Advent. (The color blue is often associated with Mary).

CCHD - BREAKING THE POVERTY CYCLE
Poverty in America continues to rise. 37 million Americans, many working full-time, are unable to provide for the basic needs of their families. As the body of Christ, we are bound together, and we share the grief and anxieties of those who live in poverty. But we can also share the joy and hope that comes from joining in solidarity to break the cycle of poverty. The Catholic Campaign for Human Development supports self help projects of poor and low-income people working together to improve their lives and their communities. Please give generously to CCHD in today's collection.
