PANTRY CEREAL DRIVE SURPASSES GOAL!
The Cereal Drive to benefit Arlington Food Assistance Center (AFAC)
during September was a complete success! St. Charles Pantry has shipped
1237 family size (larger than 12-ounces) boxes of cereal to AFAC! We
also retained an additional 125 smaller boxes for use in the regular
pantry bags. Blessings and thanks to all parishioners for their generous
outpouring while still continuing to stock the shelves of the Pantry
with their regular donations.
SPONSOR OF THE WEEK: Our thanks to Brian K. Madden (Bankruptcy
attorney) for his support.

MASS OF REMEMBRANCE
St. Charles will hold its annual Mass of Remembrance on November 2,
2005 (Wednesday) at 7:30PM. This is a time when we remember all those
in the parish who have died during the past year. It is also a time
to pay tribute to all those who have been important in our lives and
who have gone before us to live with the Lord. During the Mass, everyone
is invited to come forward, announce the name of the person they wish
to remember, and light a candle in their honor. Please plan to join
us for this special mass and a reception to follow in Benedict Hall.
ALTAR SERVERS There will be training for new altar servers on
Sunday, October 16, 2005 at 4:45-5:45 PM in the Sacristy. Interested
boys who have made their First Communion should contact Andy or Tricia
Samora @ 703-538-2570 or e-mail: arthur.samora@verizon.net.
SENIOR TEA WITH FATHER CREEDON
Are you retired or looking for a way to meet other seniors in the parish?
Please mark your calendar for November 1 when all seniors are invited
to have Tea with Fr. Creedon after the noon Mass on All Saints Day.
You do not need to be 65 to be considered a senior! We would like to
collect children's books for the victims of Hurricane Katrina and Hurricane
Rita. Please call Norma at 202-531-8189 to let us know if you will be
attending. Or email her at njjcanales@cox.net. We are excited to find
group activities.
CATHOLIC INQUIRY SESSIONS BEGIN
Many already know of the formation process associated with the Rite
of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA) for those who have made the
decision to join the Catholic faith. But what about those who are still
deciding or those who just want to learn more about the Catholic Church?
Ongoing informal gatherings will be held on Tuesdays at 7:30pm in the
Upper Room on the following dates: Oct 18, Nov 8 & 22, and Dec 13.
Dates for 2006 will follow. All are welcome. Questions? Call Michelle

JUST NEIGHBORS
During the month of October we will be presenting a new program "Just
Neighbors" on Wed, October 12th & 26th and Nov 9th & 30th
at 7:30-8:30 pm for 1-hour in the Parish Library. Just Neighbors is
an interactive curriculum with videos and discussions that show us ways
we can help our neighbors who are trapped in poverty and who find that
hope is a difficult virtue. Please call Dan VanBelleghem at (703) 525-4565
for more information. Registration is free.
PARISH OFFERTORY PROGRAM
As was introduced last week, our parish is in the midst of a 3-week
reflection of our personal weekly offertory. This week, a brochure is
being mailed to you. This brochure not only contains information regarding
the nature of the Parish Offertory Program, it also contains information
on the current giving of our parishioners and the income and expense
budget of our parish. You are asked to carefully study the brochure
and to note the financial giving recommendations that it contains in
the context of the Lord's gifts to you and your family. Next weekend,
during Mass, you will receive a commitment card and will be asked to
indicate your weekly commitment. Regardless of whether you give monthly,
quarterly, etc., please indicate on the card the amount that your gifts
will represent on a weekly basis. If you have not used the designated
parish offertory envelopes or checks in the past, please begin to do
so. It is very important for us to know how many members of our parish
are actively involved in offering their financial support. Please make
a conscious effort to examine your spending priorities, see where our
parish is currently placed within them and, then, adjust your priorities
as you deem necessary based on our obligation to support the work of
the Lord. Thank you for your ongoing prayer and reflection.
LUTHERAN/ANGLICAN/ROMAN CATHOLIC DIALOGUE CONFERENCE
The annual LARC Conference will be held on November 4 - 5 in Lexington,

will include Rev. Dr. Michael Battle, of Virginia Theological Seminary,
and Rev. Mpho Tutu, daughter of Archbishop Desmond Tutu. Also, presentations

pick up a brochure at one of the church entrances. Registration dues
by Oct 22.
