25th Sunday in Ordinary Time
FROM THE PASTOR
Dear St. Charles Parishioners,
This weekend we give tangible expression to our solidarity with the
victims of Hurricane Katrina, their survivors and to all displaced by
this tragedy. The Second Collection for that purpose will be administered
by Catholic Charities USA.
Our diocesan agencies are offering additional ways of reaching out
personally. Let us pray that this event will deepen in all of us a social
conscience that embraces all victims of natural disaster and personal
crisis and let us work for a society that will reduce the disparities
revealed between rich and poor.
Keep October 1 on your calendar for our second annual diocesan Peace
and Justice Commission Conference at St. Charles. On Sun Oct 2 at 7pm,
Joan Rosenhauer from the US Conf. of Catholic Bishops will join me for
Conversations with Creedon on the topic of the Catholic View of the
Consistent Life Ethic. Hope to see you there.
With thanks for your support to stranger and neighbor in need,

next gathering is this Tuesday, September 20 at 7:30 PM in room 104.

site. Your work can be seen by thousands of visitors as you make a real

SR. BENEDICT'S BRIGADE NEEDS YOU!
We are looking for (more than) a few men and women to "Live the
Spirit," through participation in "Benedict's Brigade,"
a group named in honor of Sr. Benedict that brings together school parents,
alumni and single and married parishioners to further build community
in the light of Christ by enhancing the ties between them.
There are no fees to join, and membership is entirely voluntary. You
do not need to have children to be involved-just a willingness to support
our school and our students and to share the many achievements of our
children with the parish at large. Those parishioners who are active
participants in events sponsored by the school are especially encouraged
to register.
Benefits of Brigade membership include: advance notice of school activities
and events, including the Oktoberfest, Breakfast with Santa, Polka Party
and other fund-raisers, the opportunity to network with other members
of the Brigade via a free online ListServ and most importantly, the
gratitude of our parish and our school students for your prayers, interest,
care and concern.
To sign up, please report to www.stcharles.k12.va.us.
Click on the "Alumni and B's Brigade" button and complete
the online registration form or call the School office at 703-527-0608.
COLLECTING OLD CELL PHONES
Donate your old cell phones to St. Charles to help support our youth
who will go to Wilmington, NC in July 2006 for Workcamp. There they
will help repair, restore, and weatherize homes for those unable to
do so themselves. Look for boxes at Church entrances or drop off phones
in the Parish Office. Thank you for helping support our teens!
