24th Sunday in Ordinary Time
FROM THE PASTOR
Dear St. Charles Parishioners,
Queen of Peace Parish hosts an important conference on Saturday 17th,
on the issues of the death penalty and fair wages in Virginia. Bishop
Walter Sullivan will provide the keynote address.
Thanks for the outpouring of support for those affected by the hurricane.
We will support the outreach of Catholic Charities USA by a special
collection on September 17/18. Please make out your checks to St. Charles
with a memo "Katrina Hurricane Relief." Please check our website
for other ways of helping, with the assistance of our diocesan resettlement
office and Catholic Charities.
Training sessions for lay leaders who wish to join St. Charles' efforts
with IAF, faith based community organizing,
will be offered on September 18 and 19 in the area. Please check the
Web.
With prayer and support to all victims of natural disaster and violence.

SUNDAY NURSERY: Sign-ups for the Sunday nursery for children
1-4 years starts on September 4th. All who attend are expected to participate
through periodic volunteer coverage in the nursery. The nursery will
resume operations on September 18th. Please contact Melissa Dutcher
at 703-534-8113 or mdutcher1@verizon.net
for sign-up information.
NURSERY STAFF NEEDED: We have opportunities for two part-time
paid positions in our co-op nursery. Staff needed for the 9:00 and 11:00
o'clock Sunday Masses. All are encouraged to apply. If you are interested
please contact Melissa Dutcher at 703-534-8113 or mdutcher1@verizon.net.
JUST NEIGHBORS: One out of every six children in the United
States is living in poverty. We are commanded to "love our neighbors
as ourselves," but it isn't always easy to know what our neighbors'
needs are, or what response we should make. A new program "Just
Neighbors" begins on Wednesday, Oct 12 & continues Oct 26,
Nov 9, & 30th from 7:30-8:30 PM in the Parish Library. Just Neighbors
is an interactive curriculum with videos and discussions that show us
ways we can help our neighbors who are trapped in poverty and who find
that hope is a difficult virtue. Please call Dan VanBelleghem at (703)
524-4565 for more information.
BAPTISMAL PREPARATION: Baptismal instruction in English will
be offered Wed Sept 21 at 7:30pm in Room 103 of the Parish Center. To
register, please call 703-527-5500.
SPONSOR OF THE WEEK: Our thanks to Philip A. Gentry, DDS, &
Jeanette Coutin-Gentry, DDS for their support.

VOLUNTEER MINISTRY FAIR SEPT 24/25
Come & see how your life can be changed by volunteering. Various
parish volunteer ministries will be on hand after each of the weekend
masses in Benedict Hall.
SR. BENEDICT'S BRIGADE NEEDS YOU!
We are looking for (more than) a few men and women to "Live the
Spirit," through participation in "Benedict's Brigade,"
a group named in honor of Sr. Benedict that brings together school parents,
alumni and single and married parishioners to further build community
in the light of Christ by enhancing the ties between them.
There are no fees to join, and membership is entirely voluntary. You
do not need to have children to be involved-just a willingness to support
our school and our students and to share the many achievements of our
children with the parish at large. Those parishioners who are active
participants in events sponsored by the school are especially encouraged
to register.
Benefits of Brigade membership include: advance notice of school activities
and events, including the Oktoberfest, Breakfast with Santa, Polka Party
and other fund-raisers, the opportunity to network with other members
of the Brigade via a free online ListServ and most importantly, the
gratitude of our parish and our school students for your prayers, interest,
care and concern.
To sign up, please report to www.stcharles.k12.va.us.
Click on the "Alumni and B's Brigade" button and complete
the online registration form or call the School office at 703-527-0608.
WINNERS IN THE 300 CLUB: Support Catholic Education! Join the
300 Club to benefit St. Charles School. It's easy-it's fun-three lucky

participate-all parishioners and friends are welcome and invited to
join! See the web for all the winners for June, July, and August.

who will go to Wilmington, NC in July 2006 for Workcamp. There they
will help repair, restore, and weatherize homes for those unable to
do so themselves. Look for boxes at Church entrances or drop off phones
in the Parish Office. Thank you for helping support our teens!
