19th Sunday in Ordinary Time

FROM THE CHURCH OFFICE
The beauty of the Catholic Mass lies in its ability to celebrate the uniqueness of the different cultures, which make up God's children throughout the world, while holding onto the core structure and meaning of the Mass. Anyone who has traveled to different countries of the world can attest to this. The prayers may be spoken in an unfamiliar language, but the meaning is the same. Whether it be French, Spanish, Creole, etc., it is possible to follow along, quietly praying the prayers in our language. The Bishops of various countries have the ability to petition Rome to allow some changes in some parts of the liturgy that would affect their country only. For example, in the United States, we kneel during the Eucharistic Prayer. Throughout the rest of the world, the congregations stand. And this is acceptable and fine. Liturgical dance is common in many countries. In Haiti, dance is done with respect and reverence to honor and praise God at Mass. The gentle movements of the dancers add grace and beauty to the prayers of the people. Many cultures have drums and rhythm as the primary source of musical accompaniment. But always the Mass with its message is the same!! We need to remind ourselves to be open to this message and to find joy in our diversity.

NEWLY BAPTIZED
Welcome to the following who recently entered the faith community through the Sacrament of Baptism: Adriana Galdo-Hernàndez, Alejandra Galdo-Hernàndez, Jasmine Henriquez, Salvador Peña, Jaime Areli Romero-Lucer.

FEAST OF THE ASSUMPTION OF THE BLESSED VIRGIN
Please note that on Monday, August 15, the Feast of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin, is not a Holy day of obligation.

We Pray… For those in the military and the support forces overseas, may the peace of God's presence and our concern for them give them strength, and may they return in safety.

SPONSOR OF THE WEEK: Our thanks to SANGAM FINE INDIAN CUISINE for their support.
