4th Sundy of Easter
FROM THE PASTOR
Dear St. Charles Parishioners,
"They recognized him in the breaking of the bread" is an
Easter theme. Pope John Paul II declared a Year of the Eucharist before
he died. The First Communion celebrations we are preparing are an occasion
for the whole Parish to renew our understanding and devotion to the
Bread of Life.
Sr. Margaret Scott will make a presentation on "Bread Broken and
Shared, the Meaning of the Eucharist for Today's World" at Benedict
Hall on Sunday, May 1, at 7:00 PM. Come and join us.
Remembering Pope John Paul and praying
for the universal Church.
2005 INTERNATIONAL FESTIVAL
Mark your calendar for a day of Fun & Good Food! On Saturday, June
11, St. Charles Borromeo Parish is having an International Festival
to celebrate the delightful diversity in our Parish. This will be an
all day festival which will start with a YARD SALE at 8:00 AM. There
will be delicious foods from fine area restaurants, a bake sale, games
and music. An International Potluck Dinner at 6:30 PM will cap the day
with music from around the world.
INTERNATIONAL FESTIVAL
Do you have some wonderful books that you'd like to share? Think of
donating them to our International Festival Yard Sale (Please, no text
books!). Do you have or make a favorite cake or candy that just too
good not to share? Or a special favorite or your country? Bring it to
our Bake Sale! We are still looking for more volunteers to help with
events during the day's festivities. Specifically, we need an experienced
announcer, bake sale and game coordinators, and yard sale helpers. If
you would like to offer your time and talent, please call the Parish
Office at 703-527-5500.

each Tuesday morning from 10-11:30 AM in room 103 of the Parish Center
for playtime. For the kids - a fun, safe place to play. For the parents
- a great way to support and learn from each other during these joyous
and challenging years!
SPONSOR OF THE WEEK: Our thanks to Mark J. Monaco, ESQ for his
support.
FAITH FORMATION
Archaeologist have found Eucharistic vessels that people used to bring
home pieces of the consecrated bread. The custom of celebrating Mass
during the week (between Sundays) did not emerge until the fourth century
or so. When people left Mass on Sunday, they brought Eucharistic bread
home to receive the Lord during the week, to stay linked to the Church's
praise of God, and to be strengthened physically and spiritually until
the gathering again on the following Sunday.

BUILDING BRIDGES WITH THE YOUTH OF TODAY
We have seen that Latino young people in the United States are hearing
many contradictory voices coming from the different groups and communities
to whom they belong in regards to their identity and their culture.
Just as Christ Himself did with his disciples, we must meet people where
they are and evangelize the culture in which they live. Confirmation
classes are now ending and we are looking for passionate and dedicated
members of our community to help the Latino young people have a place
where they can share their struggles, joys, frustrations, identity,
culture, and make positive life decisions during their adolescent years.
Creating a small group community among these Latino young people will
be the opportunity they need in order to feed their souls and their
lives. If you or someone you know would be interested in pioneering
this youth ministry program with the Latino young people, please contact
Gabriela Castañeda at 703-841-2519 or via email at gisablec@hotmail.com.
The Latino young people are ready, we just need people with energy and
willingness to help them grow and dive deeper into the faith they have
professed.
LOOKING FOR A FEW GOOD COUPLES

through our Mentor Couple Program as they prepare. You will be trained

your home. Call Margie and John Barba (703-281-5316) or come May 1 to
an information meeting at 10:00 AM in Room 103.
