Bulletin for August 8, 2004

19th Sunday in Ordinary Time

Dear St. Charles Parishioners,

"Faith is the confident assurance concerning things we hope for, and conviction about things we do not see." We need people around us who can believe when we find ourselves weak in faith. Let us be those people of faith for each other and remember the promise of God, not only for each other at St. Charles, but for all those we interact with in our community. The world needs faith.
Remember that next Sunday August 15th, after the 7:30, 9 and 11 AM Masses and at a special celebration at 2 PM we will be having receptions for our beloved Fr. Francisco on his last Sunday with us.

Come and be together in our send-off.

FAREWELL RECEPTIONS FOR FR. MENDEZ
Sunday, August 15th, will be Fr. Mendez's last day at St. Charles. Plan to attend one (or all) of the receptions scheduled that day to thank him for his many years of service to the parish and to wish him well in his new assignment. Receptions are scheduled in Benedict Hall after all the morning Masses, and a reception with buffet will follow the 1 PM Mass.

BAPTISMAL PREPARATION
Baptismal instruction in English will be offered on Tuesday August 17, at 7:00 PM in the Parish Library. To register, please call the Parish Office at 703-527-5500.

MASS AND HEALING SERVICE
The Catholic Healing Ministry of the Diocese of Arlington will celebrate a Mass and Healing Service on Thursday, at August 12, 8:00 PM, St. Philip Catholic Church, 7506 St. Philip's Court, Falls Church, VA. Fr. Tuck Grinnell, will be the celebrant. For further information call 540-347-0809 or www.healingministry.net.

SPONSOR OF THE WEEK: Our thanks to Brighton Gardens for their support.

ON THE TWSC-TWSC is an award-wining, predominantly immigrant grassroots organization committed to social and economic justice for Northern Virginians. They work for improved access to low-income housing, health care, and living-wage jobs; they challenge racism and sexism through education and direct action; they seek to develop community leaders and cooperatively control community resources. THE CENTER-Opening in early fall 2004, the multipurpose Arlandia Community Center will host a range of civic participation and leadership development programs, including youth development, parent involvement in public schools, pre-school education, computer classes, community health access and promotion, legal, social and human services, and workforce and neighborhood business development.
