Dear St. Charles Parishioners,
Today our scriptures could help us reflect on our use of money and our
riches. How do we share what we have? Have consumerism and materialism
become our false idols? It is something each of us can wrestle with. Am
I building a kingdom for myself or in the service of others? Let summer
retreat time give you space to think about your attitudes towards possessions
and "put on a new man (woman), one who grows in knowledge as he is
formed anew in the image of his Creator". (reading II). And don't
forget to keep on supporting your parish ministries
at St. Charles.
We need you.
BAPTISMAL PREPARATION
Baptismal instruction in English will be offered on Tuesday August 17,
at 7:00 PM in the Parish Library. To register, please call the Parish

RESPECT LIFE MINISTRY
"Failing to protect the lives of innocent and defenseless members
of the human race is to sin against justice. Those who formulate law
therefore have an obligation in conscience to work toward correcting
morally defective laws, lest they be guilty of cooperating in evil and
in sinning against the common good."-USCCB "Catholics in Political
Life."
"ABORTION." Is this word a part of your past? Are you in
need of some deep spiritual healing? If so, call Maryanne at 703-841-2504
or projectrachel@arlingtondiocese.org

consider teaching Confirmation classes to young people enrolled in our
youth ministry programs. For more information on volunteering for this
important ministry, contact Anne Marie at 703-527-5500, x119 or akaufmann@stcharleschurch.org.

online Catholic community.
WHEN SOLIDARITY PAYS OFF
On behalf of the family of Joseph and Mi-Choong O' Brien, Mary Kane,
Joseph's sister, thanks St. Charles for prayers and support with the
petition for her sister-in-law's release form detention and near deportation.
They are grateful for all St. Charles did during what could only be
described as a nightmare for the family. She says, "The people
of this parish kept my brother strong enough to keep going. There are
still some hurdles with regard to Mi-Choong's case but at least after
so many months she is back home with Joe and her children." There
are many others who have nowhere to turn, swallowed up in a system where
many are forgotten and deported. Let us not forget our brothers in Christ.
Mary declares, "Thank you again and I look forward to being part
of
your efforts toward social justice."
