FROM THE PASTOR'S DESK
Dear St. Charles Parishioners,
This weekend we reach out in our second collection to Haiti. Your
contributions will help our sister parishes to provide additional assistance
in the areas of education, health and community building. We will also
set aside a portion for flood victims and their families through the
parish twinning project. I want to thank our sponsors and out Haiti
Committee for their welcome to Peres Dieuvelome and Jocelyn.
I will leave next week for my annual pilgrimage to the Old Sod. I'll
keep all of you in my thoughts and prayers, in between golf games.
Wishing all of you a great Summer!
YOUTH/ADULT VOLUNTEERS NEEDED
St. Charles' Youth programs are in search of a few good souls to join
our adult leadership teams. Both On The Way, our junior high youth program
and WAY, our high school youth program have teams of 5-6 adults who
work together to coordinate weekly meetings, retreats, and other activities
during the year. If you have a passion for your Catholic faith and a
passion for sharing this with teens, then consider being a part of this
important and rewarding ministry. For more information, please contact
Anne Marie Kaufmann at 703-527-5500, x119 or akaufmann@stcharleschurch.org.
BOOK DISCUSSION
The Neighborhood A/B Book Club welcomes readers from throughout the
parish. On July 29 we will discuss Life of Pi by Yann Martel, which
was named a New York Times Notable Book. We do not meet in August. On
September 30, we will discuss Interpreter of Maladies by Jhumpa Lahiri,
which won the 2000 Pulitzer Prize for fiction. On October 28 we will
discuss Madame Secretary by Madeline Albright. If you are interested
in a lively discussion of any or all of these books, please contact
Mike McDonald at 703-522-1078 or mmcdd@comcast.net.

HELP PREGNANT WOMEN
Support pregnant women in Arlington through Project Gabriel, providing
assistance for expecting mothers in need. No experience you say? Your
openness and God's help is all you need. In being a Gabriel Angel, a
mentor for an expecting mom, you may help babysit, make a meal, drive
a mother to her prenatal appointments, and fulfill other needs. Men
and women are both welcome! St. Charles' parish contact for Project
Gabriel and pro-life efforts is the Respect Life group at (703) 528-5522.
The diocesan contact for the group is director Pat Fitzgibbons at 703-841-3810.
RESPECT LIFE MINISTRY
"It is anticipated murder to prevent someone from being born; it
makes little difference whether one kills a soul already born or puts
it to death at birth." Evangelium Vitae, quoting Tertullian.

the bulletin or a Fr.
Creedon homily even if you're away at the beach. And you can look
up Mass schedules for out-of-town churches through a link on our
Faith page. Or, if you happen to be a visitor
