FROM THE PASTOR'S DESK
Dear St. Charles Parishioners,
I am so sorry to confirm news that you may have already heard: Fr. Francisco Mendez de Dios
will be leaving us on the 16th of August in order to serve at All Saints
Manassas. We will miss him terribly. He has been a brother to me and
a friend to so many. Our sadness is muted by the knowledge that Fr.
Jack OHara will be his successor. He will join us on his return
from Banica in September where he has served our diocesan mission on
the Dominican Border close to Haiti.
We will also welcome Fr. Richard Mullins, as a priest in residence
while he assists with the Diocesan Hispanic Apostolate. Please keep
Fr. Francisco, in your prayer in this time of transition.
Please join Bishop Loverde, in a very significant Mass of Healing for
Victims of Sexual Abuse June 30, at 7:30 at the Cathedral.
Peace,
IN NEED OF FOOD FOR THE PANTRY!
The food pantry, serving families and lone rangers alike, needs more
food! Especially non-perishables and diabetic-friendly food, low in
sodium and sugar. Many of our emergency clients are diabetics, and keeping
that in mind when you make donations will make for more nutritious meals!!
HOLY FATHER/PETERS PENCE COLLECTION
On Sunday, June 27th, our parish will participate in the Peters
Pence Collection for the Works of the Holy Father. This Collection enables
the Holy Father to respond to requests for emergency funds from the
most disadvantaged throughout the world. This special appeal is an opportunity
to demonstrate justice and kindness to our brothers and sisters in need.
Please pray for the Holy Fathers works and contribute generously
to the appeal.

TWO DEVELOPMENTS, IN NEGOTIATION
These days in the local social justice ministry, we are spreading the
word about two neighborhood affordable housing developments by the non-profit
Arlington Partnership of Affordable Housing (APAH). The First Baptist
Church of Clarendon is looking to add several stories of affordable
housing with an Arlington Partnership of Affordable Housing development,
at Rosslyn Ridge off of Rte.50, a complex owned by APAH. Both developments
are currently in local government debates right now. Given our affordable
housing crisis, we pray negotiations will preserve the benefits of these
apartments for lower-income workers and families.
RESPECT LIFE MINISTRY
"I do not think we should invite speakers to our Catholic functions
who are pro-abortion, any more than we would invite a speaker to our
Catholic functions who is a proclaimed racist." -- Bishop Paul
Loverde, Arlington Catholic Herald, June 10, 2004.
PAUL VI CATHOLIC HIGH SCHOOL
4th Annual Paul VI High School Dance Team Camp is open to all ages.
June 22, 23, 24 from 2:00 PM to 6:00 PM. Call Mrs. Pat at 703-250-5711.
HAITI COMMITTEE
Come welcome our Haitian Visitors next week! On Friday, July 9th all
student sponsors and those interested in Haiti projects are invited
to a potluck reception at 7:30 PM in Benedict Hall. Check the website
or flyers for more information. Next weekend a second collection will
raise funds for Good relief (75%) and our sister parishes (25%). Thank
you for your generosity!

ARE YOU REGISTERED?
If you plan to be a godparent for a Baptism, a sponsor for confirmation,
or to be married in a Catholic Church, you MUST be a registered parishioner
for a minimum of three (3) months! The Church can not vouch for you
if we do not have any information about your participation in the parish.
Stop by the Parish Office to register.
HAVE YOU MOVED?
If you are a registered parishioner and have recently relocated, please
notify the Parish Office, in writing, of the change. The Post Office
often returns to us correspondence and offertory envelopes that are
undeliverable because of an address change. The parish is also charged
70 cents for each returned item.
IN OUR PARISH
If you have found an item that you believe someone has left behind or
if you have lost something important to you, check with the Parish Office.
We have many items form car key and house keys to umbrellas.
