FROM THE PASTOR'S DESK
Dear St. Charles Parishioners,
"He will guide you to all truth"
The purpose of the church is to promote a knowledge of God. This weekend
proclaims God the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit. Religious education
teaches about God, liturgy praises God and social ministry serves God
in others. Yet it is in personal prayer that we come closer to God.
Join Jean Sweeney, our Pastoral Counselor and myself this Sunday at
7 PM at Benedict Hall for an expiration of "The ways of Praying."
Brings friends and family to our Parish Picnic on the afternoon of June
19. Bozo the Clown will delight the children,
Live the Spirit!
BAPTISMAL PREPARATION
Baptismal instruction in English will be offered on Wednesday, June
9, at 7:00 PM in the Parish Library. To register, please call the Parish
Office at 703-527-5500.
CHRISTIAN WOMEN IN ACTION
A Spiritual conference weekend will be conducted by CWIA (Catholic Women's
service and outreach organization) the weekend of June 11-13 at Marymount
University, Arlington VA. Conference speakers include Fr. Lamont Phillip,
former Anglican Priest turned Roman Catholic Priest as well as Michael
Cumbie, former Southern Baptist Pastor turned Catholic Lay Evangelists.
Come "Put on the Armor of God." For more information, please
contact Patti at 703-971-3633.
PETER'S COLLECTION PENCE
On Sunday, June 27th, our parish will participate in the Peter's Pence
Collection for the Works of the Holy Father. This Collection enables
the Holy Father to respond to requests for emergency funds from the
most disadvantaged throughout the world. This special appeal is an opportunity
to demonstrate justice and kindness to our brothers and sisters in need.
Please pray for the Holy Father's works and contribute generously to
the appeal.

RESPECT LIFE MINISTRY
"To be a faithful and serious Catholic necessarily means that one
is pro-life and not pro-choice. To be pro-choice essentially means supporting
the right of a woman to terminate the life of her baby, either pre or
partially born
Protecting human life from conception to natural
death is more than a Catholic issue. It is an issue of fundamental morality,
rooted in both the natural law and the divine law."

IN OUR PARISH
PARISH PICNIC NEXT SATURDAY!
All parishioners are cordially invited to the St. Charles Parish Picnic
on Saturday, June 19 from 1:00 - 4:00 PM at Lubber Run Park at N. Columbus
Street and 2nd Street North. (Rain site: Benedict Hall in the Parish
Community Center). Please check the flyer and the Web site for additional
details. We hope to see you there!
ARE YOU REGISTERED?
If you plan to be a godparent for a Baptism, a sponsor for confirmation,
or to be married in a Catholic Church, you MUST be a registered parishioner
for a minimum of three (3) months! The Church can not vouch for you
if we do not have any information about your participation in the parish.
Stop by the Parish Office to register.
HAVE YOU MOVED?
If you are a registered parishioner and have recently relocated, please
notify the Parish Office, in writing, of the change. The Post Office
often returns to us correspondence and offertory envelopes that are
undeliverable because of an address change. The parish is also charged
¢70 for each returned item.
DONATIONS FOR AACH-SULLIVAN HOUSE
This transitional shelter offers priority housing to battered women
and their children. The moms Ministry is collecting disposable diapers
for a monthly drop-off. The shelter accepts both new and opened packages
- good news if your baby always outgrow a size before you've finished
the jumbo pack! Please drop off at the Parish Office during office hours.
