FROM THE PASTOR'S DESK

Dear St. Charles Parishioners,

Mark your calendar for Sunday June 6 at 7 PM: "Conversation with Creedon with special guest Jean Sweeney: on How to pray? Come join us to search for ways of strengthening contact with God.

After the evening Masses on Saturday and Sunday this weekend new members are invited to a welcome reception at Benedict Hall. Extend a warm welcome with me to our newly registered parishioners.

A big Thank you to all who made our Ministries evening such a success in our splendid Werthmann Room/Gym.

Pray for Peace,

Rev. Gerry Creedon

LITURGY OF THE WORD
We have a recent tradition at St Charles of asking people to dress in a special way on the feast of Pentecost. By wearing clothes or accessories that suggest fire - bold reds, blues, or orange colors - we emphasize symbols we hear about in the Pentecost story. For this Pentecost, the Liturgy Planning Team suggests that we also reflect on the readings for the day by reading the Scripture selections before coming to Mass. As we prepare ourselves for the Liturgy of the Word, the Spirit can prepare us for a deeper experience of Eucharist.

>C'YA Retreat

Friday evening, June 11th-Sunday afternoon, June 13, 2004 - C'YA Retreat: C'YA is packing its bags and heading west (at least as far west as Middleburg, VA, anyhow) for a spiritual retreat to beat all spiritual retreats! Plan to start the weekend on Friday night, June 11 and end on Sunday afternoon, June 13th.

The weekend's keywords are FUN and FAITH. Plan to challenge yourself on a ropes course and zip wire, spend nights around a campfire and on vespers hill, canoeing or swimming in the afternoon, and sharing your faith with the rest of the group in various activities throughout the day in our lodge. Expect a very thought-provoking weekend where you will be able to listen to speakers, participate in activities and games, and have a good time challenging yourself physically, mentally, emotionally, and of course spiritually.

Please be sure to mark the weekend on your calendars and get your money in. We have a maximum of 48 spots available. I am opening this opportunity up to C'YA members first, but I will be giving other Catholic young professionals the opportunity to participate if we have extra space. So, get your money in ASAP!

The total cost for the weekend is $120. This includes lodging, meals from Saturday morning through Sunday afternoon, and all activity fees including the ropes course. Checks should be written out to St. Charles and please indicate C'YA Retreat in the memo line. C'YA has a mailbox in the parish office. Please drop checks off there, and they will be collected regularly.

Please send me an email, lisaasolomon@hotmail.com, once you have turned in your money or if you have any questions. You may also turn money in to our Treasurer, James Brett or myself if you see us at church or a C'YA event.

Check out Camp Highroad's website, http://www.camphighroad.org/retreat/. It really is as beautiful as the pictures. We will be staying in Oak Lodge. Rest assured that the youth camps will not have started when we are there.
