FROM THE PASTOR'S DESK
Dear St. Charles Parishioners,
Alleluia! Christ is Risen!
The violence of the scourging, the nails of the cross, the thorns have
been laid aside in the triumph of the crucified one. "If I be lifted
up I will draw all to myself."
Rarely has our world needed the message of Easter so much. Iraq, Afghansistan,
Madrid, Jerusalem, Bethlehem all cry out for healing.
The key is the word from the cross: forgiveness. It is the other way,
the path of non-violent resistance. Let us welcome the Easter message
with acts of kindness and gestures of peace, beginning with those closest
to us. Let us emerge from this celebration with a commitment to be an
Easter people for a fragmented planet, witnesses to hope and reconciliation.
Thanks for your Easter gifts and you're overflowing rice bowls!
Happy Easter!
Congratulations to our newest adult members of the Catholic faith community!

PLEASE PRAY FOR
Please remember to keep in your prayers, those who are sick and those
who suffer, especially: Celia Coronado, Francis Stanley, , Margie Matusiewicz,
Danny Ropski, Judy Fender, Christine Rizzuto, Christian Volz, and Martha
Welch. Let us also pray for those who have died: Helen Naber, Baby Vincent
DelGuidice, and Lena Cafferina.
PRAYER FOR FOOD FOR THE POOR
We pray for 35 million people in our nation, many families struggling
to put food on the table and for our leaders to do them justice. Congress
should maintain and strengthen nutrition programs for the poor: food
stamps, women infants children, school lunches and breakfasts, and summer
food programs. Let us raise our prayers and voices for these intentions.
SPONSOR OF THE WEEK: Our thanks to Murphy Funeral Homes for
their support.
RESPECT LIFE MINISTRY
"Authority is a postulate of the moral order and derives from God.
Consequently, laws and decrees enacted in contravention of the moral
order, and hence of the divine will, can have no binding force in conscience
;
indeed, the passing of such laws undermines the very nature of authority
and results in shameful abuse."-Pope John XXIII, "Pacem in
Terris"

"FROM OUR COUNTERS
"
St. Charles is extremely blessed by the generosity of our parishioners
evident every week in the collection baskets. There is no special equipment
used to count all the contributions received - just the dedicated volunteers
who donate their time on Sunday and Monday to unfold, sort, count, and
tally. You can assist these volunteers though, as well as the Parish
Manager and Accountant, by following a few "helpful hints."
Try not to Fold (unfolding bills and checks, whether in an envelope
or not, can take more time than the actual counting). Try to Mark (marking
all collection envelopes with the amount enclosed is a real time saver.
It also ensures that the correct amount will be credited to your account).
Also, remember to note on any envelope if your contribution is meant
for something other than the collection in which it was received. This
is the only way to ensure that your donation is separated correctly.
And finally, please No Tape (it makes opening the envelope very difficult).
MANY THANKS FOR HELPING OUR COLLECTION HELPERS!
IN OUR PARISH
PARKING
PLEASE NOTE that parking will no longer be allowed at Red Top Cab. Please
DO NOT park in their lot. Also, Midas (across the street from the Church
on Washington Blvd.) allows parking on Sunday until 7:30 PM ONLY! Cars
will be towed after 7:30 PM and on any other day.
THANK YOU! ~ MUCHAS GRACIAS!
Thanks very much to Fr. Creedon, Fr. Mendez, Sr. Benedict, Jean Sweeney
and the entire St. Charles parish community for all your support and
good wishes on the occasion of my award by the Diocesan Council of Catholic
Women. While I am humbled by this honor, I accept this recognition in
the name of all St. Charles parishioners who give so generously of their
time, talent and treasure to build the kingdom in our parish and beyond.
Further, it is a credit to our Pastor, Fr. Creedon, who works so tirelessly
to foster a sense of belonging and welcome in our parish, that so many
feel comfortable to step out in faith.
I also wish to add a special word of thanks to several of our parish's
"feminine geniuses" who were present at the March 27 award
ceremony: Sr. Benedict, DeAndra Beck, Mimi Fitzgerald, Gemma Furno,
Jean Sweeney and Eleanor Werthmann.
Please be assured of my continued prayers for our parish community.
In faith,
Carolyn M. Gretzinger
