FROM THE PASTOR'S DESK
Dear St. Charles Parishioners,
This week is called HOLY WEEK, a time to meditate on the Lord's passion,
death and resurrection. The movie by Mel Gibson has achieved at least
one positive result: it has provoked a discussion on the meaning of
the Lord's passion. I would like to listen to your reactions to that
movie as an introduction to the topic of forgiveness ("Conversation
with Creedon") this Sunday evening at 7 PM, April 4, at Benedict
Hall. What does the cross of Christ mean? How do we achieve its purpose:
reconciliation? How do we re-enter the Sacrament of Forgiveness with
a fresh understanding?
On Monday, April 5 at 7:30 PM I have invited a number of confessors
to join Fr.Mendez, Fr.Whitestone and myself to celebrate the Sacrament
of Reconciliation. Confessions will be offered in Spanish and English
as part of our community's rite of penance.
Before we celebrate the hope of Christ's dying and rising, let us
make peace.
We congratulate all of our newly confirmed youth. May the Holy Spirit
guide them to a deeper relationship with Jesus and his church. I pledge
myself and my staff to working with them to make St. Charles a place
where the can grow and participate as maturing Catholics,
May this week be for each of you a Holy Week!
FASTING & ABSTINENCE
Those 14 years of age or older are bound to observe the law of abstinence
(no meat). Those over 18 and under 60 years of age should observe the
law of Fast (one normal meal and two smaller ones). Ash Wednesday and
Good Friday are the only days of Fast and Abstinence. The Fridays of
Lent are days of abstinence.
C'YA PRAISE & WORSHIP EVENING
Join young adults each month on the 1st and 3rd Thursdays for uplifting
music, inspirational speakers, and small faith sharing groups. Our first
praise and worship will be held on April 15, 2004 at 7:30 PM. With Eucharistic
Adoration in the St. Charles Chapel. This is a great way to grow in
faith with others who share your search for understanding the Lord's
benevolence. For more information, contact Kelly Moon at kmoon98@yahoo.com
or Erin Wooten at wootenerin@hotmail.com.
SPONSOR OF THE WEEK: Our thanks to Murphy Funeral Homes for
their support.

weekend or an established parishioner. Review
the Holy Week schedule, catch a previous Fr.
Creedon homily or find out how to get involved.
We've also added the Parish Council's list
of highlighted events selected from the 200 or so included each
month on the parish calendar. You'll find them on the News page or on
a link at the top of the calendar as well as on the PDA version of the
site.
