FROM THE PASTOR'S DESK
Dear St. Charles Parishioners,
The question of Clergy Sexual Abuse has been in the news again this
week, with reports that document a larger problem than was admitted
previously. I have invited Jennifer Alvaro from the Diocesan Office
for Victims' Assistance for the Protection of Children to join me on
March 7 after the 6:00 PM Mass for a Conversation on: "What is
the Church doing to remedy the problem of abuse and to protect children?"
This weekend following the 5:00 PM Saturday and the 6:00 PM Sunday
Masses, we invite newcomers
to join us for a Reception at the School Cafeteria.
Check the Website for Lenten activities that
offer contemporary practices for prayer, fasting and almsgiving.
Peace,
WE NEED YOU
Especially if you're a person who likes to meet and greet others! Now
that the new Community Center is ready for action, we are starting a
new ministry (join right away and you can help name it!). We anticipate
that volunteers will be available after all weekend Masses to "meet
and greet" parishioners and visitors to our parish. For one-half
hour after each Mass - perhaps once or twice a month - you can help
orient people to what we do and how well we do it. No previous experience
is necessary - only a desire to help others feel at home. Spanish a
plus. Training sessions will be held. If this appeals to you, call (evenings)
Mimi Fitzgerald at 703-527-6721 or mimifitz@erols.com
or Carol Poplin at 703-243-7621.
VOLUNTEERS NEEDED
We're almost there! The new Center is dedicated, special-event tested,
and waiting for final approval of all the bureaucracies involved. Then
parish-related ministries can meet in the new areas. When this happens,
we will need a group of volunteers willing to sit at the Parish Office,
from 5 to 9 PM, Monday through Friday to facilitate the people and events
that will continue to come to that side of the Parish. Training will
be provided! Anyone interested, please call (evenings) Carol Poplin
at (703) 243-7621.

FASTING & ABSTINENCE
Those 14 years of age or older are bound to observe the law of abstinence
(no meat). Those over 18 and under 60 years of age should observe the
law of Fast (one normal meal and two smaller ones). Ash Wednesday and
Good Friday are the only days of Fast and Abstinence. The Fridays of
Lent are days of abstinence.
SPONSOR OF THE WEEK: Our thanks to ARLANDRIA FLOORS for their
support.
