FROM THE PASTOR'S DESK
Dear St. Charles Parishioners,
Lent begins this Wednesday.
A Flyer brings you all the special activities
offered at St. Charles.
Scriptural Prayer booklets will be available to enrich your prayer.
You may use them for faith sharing in your household or with neighbors.
I will offer a Scripture-based Faith Sharing every Saturday at 8 AM
in the Chapel.
Lent Soup suppers on Tuesdays and Operation Rice Bowl help us to live
more simply that others may simply live!
Volunteering your time is another form of sacrifice that I recommend.
With the opening of our new Parish Center we will have a great need
for volunteers, especially as receptionists. Please call the Office
703-527-5500 and help us out. College students and retired people may
enjoy this form of service.
WE NEED YOU
Especially if you're a person who likes to meet and greet others! Now
that the new Community Center is ready for action, we are starting a
new ministry (join right away and you can help name it!). We anticipate
that volunteers will be available after all weekend Masses to "meet
and greet" parishioners and visitors to our parish. For one-half
hour after each Mass - perhaps once or twice a month - you can help
orient people to what we do and how well we do it. No previous experience
is necessary - only a desire to help others feel at home. Spanish a
plus. Training sessions will be held. If this appeals to you, call (evenings)
Mimi Fitzgerald at 703-527-6721 or Carol Poplin at 703-243-7621.
VOLUNTEERS NEEDED
We're almost there! The new Center is dedicated, special-event tested,
and waiting for final approval of all the bureaucracies involved. Then
parish-related ministries can meet in the new areas. When this happens,
we will need a group of volunteers willing to sit at the Parish Office,
from 5 to 9 PM, Monday through Friday to facilitate the people and events
that will continue to come to that side of the Parish. Training will
be provided! Anyone interested, please call (evenings) Carol Poplin
at (703) 243-7621.
VOLUNTEER NEEDED TO COORDINATE VOLUNTEERS!
With the initiation of our new space and the need for numerous volunteers
to keep it running, we are looking for a person who loves coordination
- someone who can set up a list of available volunteers and can put
them in the right (needed) place at the right time. It's a new position,
so time and energy have yet to be determined, but the satisfaction of
keeping very needed ministries up and running is certain. Call (evenings)
Carol Poplin if you are interested at 703-243-7621.

RESPECT LIFE MINISTRY
"Political freedom is not - and cannot based upon the relativistic
idea that all conceptions of the human person's good have the same value
and truth, but rather, on the fact that politics are concerned with
very concrete realizations of the true human and social good in given
historical, geographic, economic, technological and cultural contexts."

LENTEN SMALL FAITH SHARING GROUPS
Beginning 1st week of March, weekly Lenten Small Faith Sharing Groups
will meet in homes around St. Charles. Participating in a Small group
is a wonderful way to reflect, grow, and feel encouraged by sharing
the scripture within a small group of community. Don't feel intimidated.
It's not a session to test bible knowledge, but simply a gathering of
warmth and reflection to feel one step closer to Christ. Please contact
Kelly Moon at (703) 312-4114 or kmoon98@yahoo.com
with preferred day of the week, time and other considerations. We will
try to accommodate your needs in the best way. Also, let us know if
you could lead a group.
"WELCOMING RETURNING/INACTIVE
CATHOLICS"
If you are a Catholic who has been away from the Church, we invite you
to be an active part of us again. "Landings" is an eight-week
discussion series, a safe landing place for returning Catholics to explore
their faith and future with the Church. We begin on Ash Wednesday, February
25. If you are interested, please call Anna LaNave at 703-916-8746 or
returning-catholics@stcharleschurch.org.
