Bulletin for February 1, 2004

4th Sunday in Ordinary Time
(See also: Marriage Enrichment Day flyer)

from the pastor...
FROM THE PASTOR'S DESK

Today's Gospel shows the people ready to throw Jesus off a cliff because he referred to god including Naaman the Syrian in his healing love.
I read today about a Tibetan nun escaping terror at home only to find herself in jail here, though approved for asylum! Despite our fears for the homeland, we need to make room for the refugee and the stranger, if we are to be true to our mission.

We also need to make room for the immigrant. Our Catholic Schools were originally built to welcome the European immigrant.

We need to make renewed efforts to continue that tradition on behalf of our newer immigrants, especially those from Latin American. St. Charles joins with our diocese in a new initiative to provide financial support where cost is the obstacle. Please call our School Office at (703) 527-0608 and talk to our bilingual staff.

This Sunday at 7 PM join with John, Margi Barba and myself for a conversation on, "What makes and breaks a relationship?" Thanks for all who made our Dedication ceremony such a wonderful celebrating of community.

Rev. Gerry Creedon

THE ARLINGTON CATHOLIC HERALD
The Arlington Catholic Herald is distributed to every registered Catholic household in the Diocese. Each year, St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church is assessed a dollar amount based upon the number of registered parishioners. This year our assessment is over $15,000.00. PLEASE HELP US TO DEFRAY THIS COST! A year's subscription to the HERALD is only $15.00! Your assistance will enable us to use our funds in other needed areas.

A special collection will be made on Sunday, February 1st; however, you may drop off your donation to the Parish Office at any time. Or, if you prefer, you may send your subscription payment to the HERALD directly (200 N. Glebe Road, Suite 607, Arlington, VA 22203. RESPECT LIFE MINISTRY
"Many people are…concerned about all the violence in this great country of the United States. These concerns are very good. But often these same people are not concerned with the millions who are being killed by the deliberate decision of their own mothers. And this is what is the greatest destroyer of peace today-abortion which brings people to such blindness." (Mother Theresa of Calcutta, National Prayer breakfast, February 3, 1994)
