FROM THE PASTOR'S DESK
This weekend we celebrate two important events in the life of St.
Charles: Octoberfest and World
Mission Sunday.
Octoberfest enables us to provide support for our school program and
our outreach to those who cannot afford tuition. Making education accessible
is an important goal for our parish. I appreciate all the volunteer
effort and financial participation in this activity and in all of our
year-round supporting events for our school.
World Mission Sunday provides us the opportunity to increase awareness
of our twinning relationship with sister parishes in Haiti and our diocesan
commitment to the Dominican Republic. These ties bring home to us the
duty of solidarity we bear for the Universal Church: a mark of the pontificate
of Pope John Paul.
On November 2nd at 7:00 PM, I host Rabbi Lia Bass for a "Conversation
on Women and Religion: Breaking the Stereotypes." Do join us.
Let us reach out in many ways!

BAPTISMAL PREPARATION
Baptismal instruction in English will be offered on Wednesday, October
22, at 7:00 PM in the Parish Library. To register please call the Parish
Office, 703-527-5500.
BISHOP'S ANNUAL APPEAL
Thank you to the many of you who have already responded to this appeal.
We are pleased with the initial response from our parish. Please return
your pledge at Mass or you may mail it. As members of the diocese, our
support is very important to the Youth Ministry and Catholic Schools
Offices.

"SAVE A LIFE BLOOD DRIVE"
The Red Cross will stop at St. Charles Church on Monday, November 10,
From 3:30-8:00 PM in its Save a Life Tour for blood donation. In order
to educate Americans on the ongoing need for blood, the American Red
Cross launched the Save a Life Tour in May, one of its largest initiatives.
The campaign's overall goal is to collect 3,000,000 blood donations
over a six-month period. The growing demand for blood products is a
result of the growth and aging of the nation and medical advances that
require more blood for surgery. At the same time, there is a slower
growth in blood collections as more blood for surgery. At the same time,
there is a slower growth in blood collection as loyal donors age. Every
two seconds, someone in America needs blood, and just one pint can save
as many as three lives. For more information on the November 10 drive,
call Gilda Ordonez at 703-698-0848.
