FROM THE PASTOR
Ministries Fair is held in the Cafeteria this
weekend. Come by and join us. A parish is as vital as its ministries.
We depend on volunteers. Through volunteering you reach out to others
and at the same time make new friends. Please consider your time and
talent and pray over how you may "Build the Spirit" at St.
Charles!
Next Saturday, October 4th, Arlington Housing Corporation will present
plans for the expansion and improvement of Woodbury Park. They wish
to provide 112 new units of affordable housing. In a time when housing
costs are escalating faster than salaries, these are desperately needed
apartments. Citizen support is needed to advocate for the County's adoption
of this plan, without further reductions. More information is provided
at the Cafeteria and on the Website. Mark your calendars for 7 PM Sunday,
October 5th for a "Conversation on Faithful Citizenship."
I will host Joan Rosenhauer from the U.S. Bishops Conferences. We will
examine the options for Catholics at election time,

BAPTISMAL PREPARATION
Baptismal instruction in English will be offered today, September 28,
at 12 Noon in the Parish Library. To register, please call the Parish
Office at 703-527-5500.
THANKS FOR YOUR COOPERATION!
Thank you for continuing to cooperate with our parking
lot attendants as they try to accommodate everyone's parking needs!
We again ask for your patience as our community center construction
continues. Please also note that parking at Midas is limited to Sunday
ONLY! Midas will tow if you park at any other time! If you come to the
Church or School during the week for an evening meeting, to meet with
a teacher, or conduct business at the Parish Office and plan to leave
St. Charles' property for any period of time (to go the coffee shop,
etc.), please stop by the Parish Office to get a temporary parking permit.
We would like to make sure your car is not towed. Our towing company
has been very accommodating to our needs, but occasionally, accidents
happen. THANK YOU AGAIN FOR ALL YOUR COOPERATION!

RESPECT LIFE MINISTRY
"By its interventions in this [political] area, the Church's Magisterium
does not whish to exercise political power or eliminate the freedom
of opinion of Catholics regarding contingent [verying views that remain
grounded in basic human rights] questions. Instead, it intends as is
its proper function-to instruct and illuminate the consciences of the
faithful, particularly those involved in political life, so that their
actions may always serve the integral promotion of the human person
and the common good."
ST. CHARLES SCHOOL ENROLLMENT IS ON-GOING
Spaces are available in Grades K-8. Before and after school care is
also available. Give your child the benefit of an excellent Catholic
education at a very reasonable cost. Tell your friends and co-workers,
they will be glad you did! For information and registration, call the
School Office at 703-527-0608. Thank you to the children and parishioners
who provided supplies for the children at St. Charles School. We are
deeply grateful!
OKTOBERFEST 2003
Please mark your calendar for Saturday, October 18th 2003 for a fun
day at St. Charles' Annual OKTOBERFEST! All proceeds will go directly
to our Parish School and this is by far our biggest fund-raiser. The
day will be filled with great entertainment, kids games, moon bounce,
bake sale, Sr. B's BBQ, Krafthaus, raffle, spaghetti dinner and Silent
Auction! We will NOT be having the Yard Sale this year, but will instead
expand our wonderful Silent Auction. We would appreciate any donations
that you are willing to make. Please think "Outside the Box."
Some of the donations that have already been received are a Barbershop
Quartet performance, a Bongo the Clown performance, a tour of the Arlington
police station, a "Proper Tea" for you and your friends, librarian
for the day, babysitting services, and season tickets to the Arlington
Players new season. Please think about what you might be willing to
donate, then contact Jennifer Torregrossa and Marcia Howard at justjen30@hotmail.com.
You may email Sabra Flaherty at flaherty1310@aol.com or call 703-920-2689.
