SCRIPTURE FOCUS
The Theme of "bread from heaven" is developed in many
ways in this chapter of John's Gospel. Today's reading opens with the
people murmuring. Since he was born in time, since the people knew his
father and his mother, Jesus simply could not have come from heaven.
Jesus does not meet their objection directly.
He raises the discussion to a higher level. To understand him it is
necessary to have faith. Only God can give faith. God holds out the
gift to all who are open to receive it. Faith is acceptance of Jesus,
and this faith in Jesus, eating the living bread, gives eternal life.

RESPECT LIFE MINISTRY
"It is clear
the nature and extent of the punishment [or
criminals] must be carefully evaluated and decided upon, and ought not
go to the extreme of executing the offender except in cases of absolute
necessity: in other words, when it would not be possible otherwise to
defend society." Evangelium Vitea.

IN OUR PARISH
MINISTRIES FAIR NEEDS YOUR HELP!
The parish is looking for volunteers to help with the parish's annual
"Ministries Fair," which will be held after all Masses on
the weekend of September 27-28 in the School Cafeteria. The Fair showcases
our parish's many ministries and activities. Some of the specific tasks
related to this volunteer opportunity include: set-up/clean-up, publicity
(flyers, helping with "Best Booth" poll/contest at the fair),
on-site assistance, etc. The next planning meeting will be held on Wednesday,
August 27 at 7:30 PM in the Parish Library. All are welcome. For more
information, call Patricia Buckley, Volunteer and Fair Coordinator,
at 703-522-2036 (email: volunteers@stcharleschurch.org)

council@stcharleschurch.org).
WEB NEWS: TOP PAGES FOR JULY
Your parish website, stcharleschurch.org, has 100s of visitors each
week. The most popular pages in July were the homepage, the celebrant's
schedule (who's saying which Mass), the C'YA
calendar (up two notches), pictures
from Fr. Creedon's 35th anniversary, and the house
blessing kit by Fr. Chuck. We even heard from a Lutheran couple
in Washington State who were new homeowners and used our house blessing
prayer! The top ministries in July were once again C'YA, RCIA
and Education. And the most
read homily was Fr. Creedon's recap of his 35 years of service.
Visit us this week for new additions, like religious
education forms, registration for
tables at the Ministries Fair and a couple
of commendation letters received by the parish (graciously
retyped and scanned by Angela Prikockis). Get online and in the
Spirit.
