Bulletin for July 20, 2003

16th Sunday in Ordinary Time

From the Pastor
Dear St. Charles Parishioners:

Thanks to your generosity and each continuing new pledge we have exceeded our campaign Goal of 2.2 million for our Rooted in Faith Forward in Hope capital campaign.

Some have indicated that they are still considering what their gift will be. Remember that every penny you contribute now to Rooted in Faith-Forward in Hope will go directly to St. Charles. Any additional dollars will be used toward several initiatives that have been identified in recent months which are currently unfounded, including: (1) repair and resurfacing of the entire parking lot; (2) re-landingscaping around the church and school to complement the new plantings at the parish center; (3) computer lab in the parish center.

I will remember you from a distance, on the banks of the River Lee!

Rev. Gerry Creedon

RESPECT LIFE MINISTRY
"The acceptance of abortion in the popular mind, in behavior and even in law itself, is a telling sign of an extremely dangerous crisis of the moral sense, which is becoming more and more incapable of distinguishing between good and evil, even when the fundamental right to life is at stake."

RELIGIOUS EDUCATION
Help needed…in order for our Atrium program to continue and flourish, new catechists are needed for next year. This special ministry at St. Charles requires a love of God, a love of children, and a desire to foster the relationship between God and children. The Atrium (Level I for 3-6 year olds and Level II for 6-9 year olds) approaches religious education using Montessori principles where by the adult provides an environment for allowing the Spirit of God to direct spiritual growth of the child. Prayer, presentations using hands-on materials, Scripture, liturgy and sacraments all form part of this unique catechesis. For more information about the Catechesis of the Good Shepherd, visit the website, www.cctheo.org and www.catechesisgoodshepherd.org. If this ministry to children interests you, please contact Anne Marie Kaufmann at (703) 527-5500 or education@stcharleschurch.org.
