Dear St. Charles Parishioners:
Last weekend on Commitment Weekend for Rooted in Faith-Forward in
Hope Campaign, we reached our goal!! Frankly you exceeded all
of my expectations. I see this outpouring of support as an expression
of the deep commitment of the people of St. Charles toward the mission
of the church.
Every Mass, including our Spanish Mass, gave generously. Now Fr. Mendez
and I can concentrate all our energies on the more spiritual aspects
of our ministries, while recognizing that every dimension of our service,
including stewardship, is touched by God's abundant grace.
I understand that the parish wants to celebrate
the 35th anniversary of my ordination. Thanks. I want to share that
appreciation with Fr. Francisco Mendez and Fr. Chuck McCoart. Francisco
completes 43 years of priestly ministry, despite his youthful appearance.
Chuck will soon begin his
pastorate at Good Shepherd in Mt. Vernon and bring them his many
gifts.
Let us thank the Lord for his blessings!

SHORT-TERM VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITY
The parish is looking for volunteers to help with the parish's annual
"Ministries Fair," which will be held after all Masses on
the weekend of September 27-28 in the School Cafeteria. The Fair showcases
our parish's many ministries and activities. Some of the specific tasks
related to this volunteer opportunity include: set-up/clean-up, publicity
(flyers, helping with "Best Booth" poll/contest at the fair),
on-site assistance (checking with ministry representatives at the Fair
after each Mass to find out how many volunteers signed up), etc. A planning
meeting will be held on Wednesday, July 2 at 7:30 PM in the Parish Library.
For more information, call Patricia Buckley, Volunteer and Fair Coordinator,
at 703-522-2036 (email: volunteers@stcharleschurch.org) or Carolyn Gretzinger,

RELIGIOUS EDUCATION
Help needed
in order for our Atrium
program to continue and flourish, new catechists are needed for
next year. This special ministry at St. Charles requires a love of God,
a love of children, and a desire to foster the relationship between
God and Children. The Atrium approaches religious education using Montessori
principles whereby the adult provides an environment for allowing the
Spirit of God to direct spiritual growth of the child. Prayer, presentations
using hands-on materials, Scripture, liturgy and sacraments all form
part of this unique catechesis. For more information about the Cathechesis
of the Good Shepherd, visit the websites, www.cctheo.org
and www.catechesisgooshepherd.org.
If this ministry to children interest you, please contact Anne Marie
Kaufmann at703-527-5500 or education@stcharleschurch.org.
