Dear St. Charles Parishioners:
"When you send forth your spirit, they are created, and you renew
the face of the earth."
Pentecost celebrates the birthday of the church. We are the disciples
who carry on the spirit of Jesus. The spirit empowers us to renew creation.
A special sign of this renewing spirit at St. Charles is evident in
the remarkable progress made by our builders in the construction of
our new Parish Community Center. With each brick, each leaf on the roof,
each girder, our facility takes shape. This Center stands as a testament
to our willingness to house our diverse community and all of our missions.
The Rooted in Faith-Forward in Hope Campaign, which sustains this initiative,
bears witness to the desire of so many to join this community effort.
Ninety percent of those who have currently pledged had already pledged
to the previous Build the Spirit Campaign! This double act of generosity
is extraordinary and acts as an incentive and a spur to those who are
still considering their sacrifice.
Because we are rooted in faith, we go forward in hope to build the
spirit!

SOCIAL JUSTICE NEWS
PROJECT LAZARUS
THANK YOU FOR YOUR VERY GENEROUS SUPPORT TO PROJECT LAZARUS! Project
Lazarus is St. Charles' donation-based emergency assistance fund, for
walk-ins and referrals from local agencies. Donations go to rent, utilities,
and prescription assistance, and we have helped a wide variety of Arlington
residents through God's help and your generosity. WE CONTINUE TO NEED
YOUR SUPPORT: please send a check or envelope donation for Project Lazarus.
God bless you all.
RESPECT LIFE MINISTRY
"This moral condemnation also regards procedures that exploit living
human embryos and fetuses…either to be used as 'biological material'
or as providers of organs or tissue for transplants in the treatment
of certain diseases. The killing of innocent human creatures, even if
carried out to help others, constitutes an absolutely unacceptable act."
(Evangelium Vitae, para. 63) The RESPECT LIFE Committee will meet on
Wednesday, June 11th at 7:30 PM in the Memorial Room of the Church.
All are welcome. Questions? Contact Grace Sims at 703-528-5522.

both with and without experience to be part of a fun, Christian summer
softball team. Coaches should have some experience with baseball or

RELIGIOUS EDUCATION
Help needed
in order for our
Atrium program to continue and flourish, new catechists are needed
for next year. This special ministry at St. Charles requires a love
of God, a love of children, and a desire to foster the relationship
between God and children. The Atrium approaches religious education
using Montessori principles whereby the adult provides an environment
for allowing the Spirit of God to direct spiritual growth of the child.
Prayer, presentations using hands-on materials, Scripture, liturgy and
sacraments all form part of this unique catechesis. For more information
about the Catechesis of the Good Shepherd, visit the websites, www.cctheo.org
and www.catechesisgoodshepherd.org.
If this ministry to children interest you, please contact Anne Marie
Kaufmann at 703-527-5500 or education@stcharleschurch.org.

IN OUR PARISH
FROM THE PARISH OFFICE
ARE YOU REGISTERED??? If you plan to be a godparent for a Baptism, a
sponsor for confirmation, or to be married in a Catholic Church, you
MUST be a registered parishioner for a minimum of three (3) months!
The Church can not vouch for you if we do not have any information about
your participation in the Parish. Stop by Parish Office to register.
PARISH OFFERTORY ENVELOPES: The Parish Offertory Envelopes have several
purposes. They provide you with a convenient way to support your Parish,
and they allow the Parish Office to keep track of your contributions
in order to provide you with a tax statement at the end of each year.
Without your name, address, and the clearly stated amount of your donation,
we are unable to accurately track your contribution. We prefer that
you use the envelopes; however, donations in check form are also credited
to individual registrations. PLEASE NOTE: IF YOU ARE NOT A REGISTERED
PARISHIONER, YOUR DONATIONS CAN NOT BE RECORDED!
HAVE YOU MOVED??? If you are a registered parishioner and have recently
relocated, please notify the Parish Office, in writing, of the change.
The Post Office often returns to us correspondence and offertory envelopes
that are undeliverable because of an address change. The parish is also
charged 70¢ for each returned item.
TAKE THE PARISH WEB POLL
TO CELEBRATE FIVE YEARS ONLINE
Your parish website, stcharleschurch.org, marked its fifth anniversary
on June 6 and you can celebrate with us all month by checking out new
features like our search engine. Plus, please
take our annual web poll so you can let us know what you like about
the site and what you'd like changed. It's also a fun way to find out
more about visitors to our site, such as which Mass they usually attend.
Thank you to all who participate in the parish's vibrant online community,
including visiting regularly, joining email lists, voting in polls and
emailing friends about all we have to offer.
