    Bulletin for June 1, 2003

    Seventh Sunday of Easter
(See also: Neighborhood Summer Events and Cabaret flyers inserted into the print version of the bulletin)

    Dear St. Charles Parishioners:

Tara Dwyer has served as our fund-raising counsel these past months. She leaves us to take up a new position. John O'Gorman will continue to work with us to complete our campaign, ROOTED IN FAITH - FORWARD IN HOPE. With his guidance, we will go from 72% to 100% of our goal.

I want to thank Tara on behalf of St. Charles and on my own behalf. The concept of stewardship is one that the clergy and the laity of the Roman Catholic tradition struggle to understand, myself included. She has helped me understand the social responsibility that accompanies our possessions, be they small or large. Building our church services and institutions are a part of that social responsibility. Tara has helped me and many others see the connection between faith and giving, and has helped us beyond our own reluctance and natural shyness to invite others to that commitment. There are a thousand reasons not to give to parish or diocesan services. Our sins and weaknesses are before us always.. However, our Easter faith rises above all the doubts and the obstacles to lead us on to victory, not for our sake but for the Kingdom. Over the last weeks, we have heard the chant, "Go Annika!" I say, "Go Tara!"

    Rev. Gerry Creedon

    PROJECT LAZARUS
THANK YOU FOR YOUR VERY GENEROUS SUPPORT TO PROJECT LAZARUS! Project Lazarus is St. Charles' donation-based emergency assistance fund, for walk-ins and referrals from local agencies. Donations go to rent, utilities, and prescription assistance, and we have helped a wide variety of Arlington residents through God's help and your generosity. WE CONTINUE TO NEED YOUR SUPPORT: please send a check or envelope donation for Project Lazarus. God bless you all.

    RESPECT LIFE MINISTRY
The complex array of today's problems branches out from here ["protection of the rights of the person"], including some never faced by past generations… Catholics, in this difficult situation, have the right and the duty to recall society to a deeper understanding of human life and to the responsibility of everyone in this regard.
    - John Paul II, Doctrinal Note on some questions regarding the participation of Catholics in political life, November 24, 2002.

    IN OUR PARISH
    FROM THE PARISH OFFICE
ARE YOU REGISTERED??? If you plan to be a godparent for a Baptism, a sponsor for confirmation, or to be married in a Catholic Church, you MUST be a registered parishioner for a minimum of three (3) months! The Church can not vouch for you if we do not have any information about your participation in the Parish. Stop by Parish Office to register.

PARISH OFFERTORY ENVELOPES: The Parish Offertory Envelopes have several purposes. They provide you with a convenient way to support your Parish, and they allow the Parish Office to keep track of your contributions in order to provide you with a tax statement at the end of each year. Without your name, address, and the clearly stated amount of your donation, we are unable to accurately track your contribution. We prefer that you use the envelopes; however, donations in check form are also credited to individual registrations. PLEASE NOTE: IF YOU ARE NOT A REGISTERED PARISHIONER, YOUR DONATIONS CAN NOT BE RECORDED!

HAVE YOU MOVED? If you are a registered parishioner and have recently relocated, please notify the Parish Office, in writing, of the change. The Post Office often returns to us correspondence and offertory envelopes that are undeliverable because of an address change. The parish is also charged 70¢ for each returned item.

PARISH PREPARES TO CELEBRATE FIVE YEARS ONLINE
Next Saturday, June 7 at the 5 PM Vigil Mass, the parish will celebrate our fifth anniversary of the parish website, www.stcharleschurch.org. Fittingly, the occasion coincides with Pentecost because the Web Team's purpose is to extend the reach of the Holy Spirit online. Visit the site this week for some fun ways to mark this milestone. Plus, you can checkout popular features like the celebrant's schedule, Fr. Creedon's homilies, volunteer opportunities, and online polls.
