Dear St. Charles Parishioners:
Not even the rain could dampen the spirit at St. Charles when we celebrated
our Mayfest despite torrential
downpours! Thanks to the Flahertys, all their helpers, and to our parishioners
and neighbors.
Last Sunday our Rooted in Faith Forward in Hope received a major boost
from our Latino Community. Eighty-two families pledged their support
and raised more than 152,000 dollars toward our 2.2 million goal! We
know the sacrifice this embodies. Many family members pooled their resources
to increase their capacity to pledge. Muchisimas gracias!
I urge all parishioners to welcome our new parishioners at the Cafeteria
this weekend after the evening Masses on Saturday and Sunday.
Welcome, bienvenidos to all new members!

DONATIONS FOR AACH-SULLIVAN HOUSE
This transitional shelter offers priority housing to battered women
and their children. The Moms Ministry is collecting disposable diapers
for a monthly drop-off. The shelter accepts both new and opened packages-good
news if your baby always outgrows a size before you're finished the
jumbo pack! Please drop-off at the Parish Office during office hours.
RAFFLE TO BENEFIT THE PARISH CENTER
On June 1st, a raffle will be held to benefit our new Parish Community
Center. The items being raffled are a 24-Inch Color TV and an 18-Speed
Mountain Bicycle! Raffle tickets will be available for sale, at the
very low price of $1.00 each, after all Masses and at the Parish Office.
So hurry and get your tickets now!
BAPTISM PREPARATION
Baptism Preparation in English will be offered today, Sunday, May 18,

SOCIAL JUSTICE NEWS
PROJECT LAZARUS
A young mother is desperate to pay rent, having not received child support
from her ex. An unemployed immigrant is about to be evicted. They turn
to our church, and they are supported by Project Lazarus. Lazarus is
St. Charles' donation-based emergency assistance fund, for walk-ins
and referrals from local agencies. Donations go to rent, utilities,
and prescription assistance, and we have helped a wide variety of Arlington
residents through God's help and your generosity. WE NEED YOUR SUPPORT
AGAIN: please send a check or envelope donation for Project Lazarus.
God bless you all.
RESPECT LIFE MINISTRY
"The fact that legislation in many countries, perhaps even departing
from basic principles of their Constitutions, has determined not to
punish these practices against life, and even to make them altogether
legal, is both a disturbing symptom and a significant cause of great
moral decline." (Evangelium Vitae, para. #4)
THOUCHING SOMEONES LIFE
YOUTH EXCHANGE SERVICE (YES) founded in 1974, is a non-profit US designated

a foreign country. Students come from Asia, Europe, and Latin American
for the school year. They are selected on their language ability, maturity,
personal accomplishments and moral standards. The YES program provides

in the parish. You can do all of these things and more through the St.
Charles online community, so join us this week. Also, Web Team members
are reminded that our next meeting is Tuesday, May 27 in the Memorial
Room.
