Dear St. Charles Parishioners:
Lent calls us to fast and pray for renewal
of faith as we prepare for Easter.
Pope John Paul adds another motivation this year: the cause of peace,
especially in the Middle East. "The future of humanity will never
be assured by terrorism and the logic of war" JPII. My homily
on peace and Iraq will be on the website as well as the Vatican
and USCC statements.
Paul the Sixth declared "Development is the new name for peace."
Our Rice Bowl is a way of implementing that principle: we fast that
others may eat. Proceeds will benefit CRS projects as well as our own
Philippine Medical Mission.
Please check for neighborhood activities
for Lent. Neighborhood A & Bwill meet at Courtland Towers on
the 14th.
Shalom,
RULES OF FAST AND ABSTINENCE

Lent are days of abstinence.

SOCIAL JUSTICE NEWS
BORROMEO HOUSING
Borromeo Housing continues to expand. We now have six families in our
program. Our most recent resident is in need of a crib and a basinet.
If anyone has these items and can donate them to us it would be greatly
appreciated. BHI also needs babysitters on a continual basis throughout
the year. Every Monday from 7-8:30 PM and Wednesday 6-7:30 PM the women
attend educational workshops in the home. In order to receive the most
from these programs we need babysitters to attend to the childrens'
needs. It is perfect opportunity for teenagers needing community service
or anyone else who wants to volunteer. Please call the office at 703-841-0139.
Thank you in advance for your assistance.
