St. Charles Bulletin for December
1, 2002

Dear St. Charles Parishioners:
This weekend, we celebrate the beginning of Advent, a time of preparation
for the coming of the Prince of Peace. I commend the Webpage for Key Events
for December. Neighborhood activities
are highlighted. Monday, December 2nd, in the Church, we have a presentation
on Liturgy, that provides the background to the changes that are initiated
this season.
This coming weekend, we hold Town Meetings
- on December 7th at 6:00 PM and on December 8th at 2:00 and 7:00 PM in
the Church. We will provide a forum for comment on larger questions affecting
the Church, such as abuse policy, liturgy changes, as well as parish concerns:
"What is happening with the Community Center?"
World Aids Day calls us to pray and work for renewed efforts by Church
and Government to fight this disease at home and abroad.
During Advent, we will provide materials for faith sharing at home. Please
join us in a season of hope.
THANK YOU FOR YOUR HELP & PATIENCE
Please cooperate with our parking lot attendants and ushers as they are
trying to accommodate EVERYONE! We ask you for patience as our community
center construction continues. We are also asking for volunteers to help
direct traffic in the parking lot. Please call Marvin Mayorga at the Parish
Office. Thank you!
BAPTISM PREPARATION
Please note that Baptism preparation in English will be offered on Sunday,
December 8th at 12 Noon in the Parish Library. This will combine Baptism
preparation for November and December. Pre-registration is required.
PLEASE NOTE: The Parish Office will be closed on Friday, November
29th.
FEAST OF OUR LADY OF GUADALUPE
All parishioners and their families are invited to celebrate the Feast
of Our Lady of Guadalupe on Saturday, December 14 at the 5 PM Mass. Please

all are invited to enjoy an evening of music, dancing and food. If you

SOCIAL JUSTICE NEWS
THANKS FOR GIVING
Well, we're back to that annual feast, celebrating the peace that the
Indians made with the settler's back in the old days of American colonization.
As a symbol of peace and offering, St. Charles will be cooking 20 full
dinners for needy families in the area, from both our English and Spanish
communities. Also, our food pantry will have bagged dinner supplies available
for pick up for families. This next month can and should be a time of
joyful giving for the most needy: so before you throw out that lamp or
those unused boxes of cereal or juice, think about who might be able to
use it. Happy Thanksgiving!
RESPECT LIFE MINISTRY
Like the good shepherd, we might seek out all who are alone, rejected,
or forgotten, ever - cherishing their lives as inestimable gifts from
God; We pray to the Lord:

in Washington? What are these new liturgical changes that went into effect
on the First Sunday of Advent? What actions can the Catholic Church take
with regard to the immigration policies enacted in the aftermath of September
11? What's happening with our Parish Community Center project? Come and
share your thoughts!
