St. Charles Bulletin for November 17, 2002

33rd Sunday in Ordinary Time
(Neighborhood Advent Events Flyer
and Advent Resources)

from the pastor...

Dear St. Charles Parishioners:

Loune Viaud, a Haitian Health Care Leader Especially in the area of HIV Services recently recognized by the Robert F. Kennedy Human Right Award, will participate in the 11 AM Liturgy on November 24 and offer a brief presentation afterwards in the Cafeteria.

After the 6:PM Mass this Sunday I invite you to the "Conversation with Creedon" series in the Chapel.

The topic is a timely one for the month of November: "Dealing with grief". I urge all newcomers to our parish, whether registered or not to come to our Welcome Receptions in the Cafeteria on November 23, 6 PM and on November 24 at 7 PM.

Next weekend's Liturgies include the Campaign for Human Development, the major anti-poverty program of the US Bishops. Your donations will help poor people organize efforts for a better life.

If you want peace work for justice,

Rev. Gerry Creedon

THANK YOU FOR YOUR HELP & PATIENCE
Please cooperate with our parking lot attendants and ushers as they are trying to accommodate EVERYONE! We ask you for patience as our community center construction continues. We are also asking for volunteers to help direct traffic in the parking lot. Please call Marvin Mayorga at the Parish Office. Thank you!

SOCIAL JUSTICE NEWS
"LET'S TALK CAR TROUBLE"

In the immigrant and Latino community, traffic infractions can lead to deportation, and getting either a proper license or a parking spot in your own apartment complex can be near impossible. On November 17, St. Charles invites all to a special forum on "car troubles" in Arlington, and what needs to be done , from 2:00-4:00 PM in the Upper Room.

SPONSOR OF THE WEEK: Our thanks to THE CATHOLIC SHOP FOR THEIR SUPPORT.

RESPECT LIFE MINISTRY
We pray to the Lord that ever ready for the coming of Christ in glory, we might work to preserve all human life, from conception to natural death.

CLUSTER DINNER
A Reminder that Parents of Kindergarten and 1st grade students at St. Charles School are invited to the "Kick Off" Cluster Dinner on Friday, November 15th from 7-9 PM in the School Cafeteria. This is an opportunity to meet and get to know your children's friend's parents and teachers, sip wine, and partake in a delicious, home cooked meal (without the kids!). Please return the RSVP form sent home by your child's teacher, or call Ann Lauritzen at 703-536-0616. If you have questions about the free babysitting provided (in the Kindergarten classroom), call Leslie Morris at 703-553-8358.

ECUMENICAL EVENT
The annual Lutheran, Anglican, Roman Catholic (LARC) Conference will be held at Roanoke College in Salem, Virginia, on November 22 and 23, to promote and celebrate the cause of Christian Unity. Our presenters will be our own bishops who will speak on Equipping our Young Adults for Christian Unity. Catholic youth in high school, colleges and universities in Virginia, and those young adults in the work place, are urged to attend and share the experience and friendship with youth from other denominations. Those from our parish who wish to attend the LARC Conference at Salem will find it a mind-opening experience. Arrangement for transportation in our parish van to Salem & back is under consideration. Over night accommodations will be provided by local host families. Those interested should inform Youth Minister, Anne Marie Kaufmann at the Parish Office and/or John & Sylvia Team at 703-841-1114.

RITE OF ACCEPTANCE
Next Sunday, at the 9 AM and 6 PM Masses, the St. Charles parish community will celebrate the first rite of the initiation process, the Rite of Acceptance and Welcoming. At this ancient ritual, these inquirers will publicly declare their desire to prepare for full initiation into the Catholic Church. The rite calls for the whole parish to warmly welcome these new members into our community. To signify this, the opening rite and introductions will be conducted just inside the doors of the church. To prepare for this celebration, you are invited to take some time this week to reflect on your own spiritual journey with Christ.
