St. Charles Bulletin for September 15, 2002

24th Sunday in Ordinary Time
(RCIA flyer)

from the pastor...

Dear St. Charles Parishioners:

"The vengeful will suffer the Lord's vengeance" or to put the matter more positively, "Should you not have compassion on your fellow servants as I had compassion on you".

In a world that sees war as a solution or a defense, the scriptures reveal another way: the path of understanding and peace. Our Interfaith service of hope was a glorious proclamation of this message.
As a follow up, I invite you in my role as Chair of the VA Interfaith Center for Public Policy to join me in an interfaith forum on September 29th at the George Mason Fairfax Campus. Fr. Bryan Hehir, a renowned Social Justice scholar, will be the main presenter; "We are called to make a difference". We especially welcome young adults and college students to this event. Call 703-578-1653 for more information.

Next week we will commission our Parish Council and Pastoral Team to a new year of service.

Pray for our builders as we initiate the construction of our Center.

Peace,

Rev. Gerry Creedon

PARISH COMMUNITY CENTER NEWS
Groundbreaking Milestone Achieved!
This past Saturday, Fr. Creedon, joined by Fr. Mendez, Sister Benedict, former Pastor Fr. Don Greenhalgh, Development Committee Chairperson Monica Craven, Architect Michael Foster, and Arlington County Board Member Mr. Jay Fisette, officially broke ground to begin construction of the long awaited St. Charles Parish Community Center. The ceremony was conducted immediately following the trilingual 5:00 PM Mass with a large number of parishioners participating. A well attended reception followed in the School Cafeteria. Mr. Fisette presented a Proclamation from the County Board, which read in part, "Hereby proclaims September 7, 2002 as the Groundbreaking Ceremony for St. Charles Borromeo Parish and urge the residents of Arlington to join together to commend the members of St. Charles and wish them every success in building the new Parish Center that will serve as a permanent place of welcome and hospitality in our community." Monica acknowledged and recognized various individuals who volunteered many hours of time and talents which made this milestone event possible.
