St. Charles Bulletin for May 26,
2002
Trinity Sunday

Dear St. Charles Parishioners,
I received a letter from Bishop Loverde yesterday, seeking priests' counsel
before the Bishops' June Meeting at a special priests gathering on Wednesday,
May 29th. It contains pertinent questions such as, "How would you
interpret zero tolerance and how would you apply it?" "How can
we reach out to victims in ways that truly apologize, reconcile, heal
and assist?" "What areas in priestly formation need further
development?", and invites discussion of "other aspects".
I wish to receive comment from members of St. Charles on these issues
and will bring those comments to the bishop on Wednesday next as part
of my counsel. It may be best to offer comment through e-mail at: gerrycreedon@erols.com
or thorugh fax at: 703-527-5505, at the Church's mailing address or by
dropping off written comment at the Parish Office to my attention.
During the month of June, I invite you to join with your neighbors
for a picnic or gathering. Our parish Council coordinates not only
our ministries but also our Neighborhoods. I take this opportunity to
thank the following Neighborhood Representatives for their work over the
past year(s): John & Tammi Fraas, Michael McMahon, Monica Beaston,
Jan Martin and Pat Horner, Alan and Regina Rowley.
I look forward to working with Kathy Censky and Patricia McKenna (A/B),
Carmelita and Roy Tucker (C), Colleen Brennan (D), Jan MacDonald and Kathleen
Murray (E), and Teresa Madrid (F). Our Neighborhoods serve to welcome
new people, build community, reach out to those in need and to provide
educational and prayer opportunities.
Please join us for the Neighborhood C Annual Picnic Sunday June 2, 11:30am-3pm:
At Quincy Park, just behind the Central Library on the corner of N. Quincy
& Wash. Blvd. RSVP to us at 703-237-6136 or mcfraas@hotmail.com by
Friday, May 31 so we can have enough food. Hotdogs, hamburgers and beverages
to be provided. Please bring a side dish. Also, please bring a non-perishable
item to benefit the St. Charles Church food pantry Tammi and John Fraas,
Neighborhood C.

ST. CHARLES BORROMEO SCHOOL SCHOLARSHIP FUND
Over the years, your outstanding generosity to our school's scholarship
fund has provided a Catholic Education to many underprivileged children.
For this, we are deeply grateful. We would like to again appeal to your
generosity for this very worthwhile service. No amount is too large or
too small to help prepare these children for a brighter future. Your continued
support is greatly needed and appreciated. Please make checks payable
to: St. Charles School Scholarshiip Fund. THANK YOU!

RESPECT LIFE MINISTRY
For those who have grown very old, and especially for all who are alone

their lives; We pray to the Lord.

MUSIC FOR MOMS RETURNS
With Mother's Day still fresh in our minds, the opportunity to help another
set of mothers has arrived! On Saturday evening June 23rd, the sixth annual
"Music for Moms" concert will be held to benefit Borromeo Housing,
Inc. BHI provides transitional housing for mothers and children who have
no other place to go. Our own Monica Perz-Waddington and Father Gerry
will be among the performers. Mark your calendars and keep posted for
further details!
STRONG DEMAND FOR COMPREHENSIVE CALENDAR AND MINISTRY LISTINGS
The recent online poll about the parish website, www.stcharleschurch.org,
showed that overall you usually find what you are looking for, but that
you'd like to see updated ministry and volunteer listings, more pictures
of parish events, and parishioners' faith stories. The Web Team is working
with the Parish Council to address two of the main issues reflected in
the poll: parish calendar accuracy and a comprehensive directory of active
parish ministries. We're still tallying all the votes so look for the
results online soon and in upcoming bulletins.
IN OUR PARISH
PARISH COMMUNITY CENTER NEWS
Next weekend (June 1-2), we will have a Second Collection for our Parish
Community Center. As a reminder, please indicate on your check (or "Building
Fund" envelope) whether your gift is a payment towards an existing
pledge or a new contribution.
Thanks for your continued support as we "Build the Spirit"
at St. Charles!
LISTENING WITH THE HEART
Are you feeling moved to pray with fewer words, to sit in silence with
God? Contemplative prayer has been described as waiting upon God or opening
ourselves to God. In your busy, noisy world, come find some silent spaciousness.
Perhaps you will find that you bring some peace back into your everyday
life. Meet at St. Charles Chapel from 7:30 PM to 8:30 PM beginning June
5, 12, 19, and 26. These sessions will be led by Jean Sweeney and Lori
Marie Croskey with the hope of fostering contemplative prayer in the Christian
tradition monthly. We invite other denominations to join us. Call Jean
703-527-5500 x15, or 703-841-8728 for information or to register.
"WELCOME THE CHILDREN" NURSERY CO-OP
Join the nursery/playroom co-op available every Sunday during the 9 and
11 AM Masses for children aged 1-4. Questions? Call Rose Holliday at 703-522-8336.
NEXT WEEK'S TITHE
Next week's tithe is for our twinning parishes in Haiti. This money helps
support operations at the parish churches and the chapels and sometimes
schools and clinics as well. It means that the Church can extend.
Vacationing? Your parish bills don't! Remember your Sunday envelope.
