Parish Sunday Bulletins

St. Charles Bulletin for April 14, 2002

3rd Sunday of Easter

from the pastor...

Dear St. Charles Parishioners,

"Was it not necessary that the Christ should suffer these things and enter into his glory?"

The Church in the U.S. is experiencing a time of upheaval with wave on wave of disclosure of abuse of children and minors. I invite you to join me today after the 6 PM Mass in the church as we reflect on these challenging issues. It is my hope that we can view this situation from a faith perspective. As an Easter people we are called to find the pathways to hope, to reconciliation with victims and to renewed integrity. Let us also remember the difficult situation Catholics face in the Holy Land and in Colombia. May we be an instrument of peace in a hurting world,

In Christ Risen!
Rev. Gerry Creedon
P.S.: Thanks for your generous support to the parish! We will continue to have a second collection for our Parish Community Center on the first weekend of each month.

BISHOP'S LENTEN APPEAL (BLA)
Your generosity to the BLA is greatly appreciated and your gift is important. By joining with other members of the diocese, we provide the funds necessary for the diocese to support many programs that parishes alone could not fund.

SALT LEGISLATIVE BREAKFAST …has been re-scheduled from April 20th, to Saturday May 11 from 9:00 to 11:00 AM, here at St. Charles School Cafeteria. Hear from our State Legislator about the business that was transacted during the 2002 General Assembly. All are Welcome.

PROJECT LAZARUS FOOD PANTRY
Our food pantry shelves need replenishing ASAP! Please bring non-perishable items to the Parish Office. BREAD FOR THE WORLD
St. Charles is joining Bread for the World's Congressional letter writing campaign to reduce hunger in the U.S. This weekend, St. Charles will be asking you to write your Representative and Senator as part of Bread for the World's 2002 Offering of Letters. Bread's theme this year, "Working from Poverty to Promise," offers another opportunity to achieve changes that will benefit families most in need. By September 30, 2002, Congress must reauthorize the Temporary Assistance to Needy Families program, commonly know as Welfare. The "Working from Poverty to Promise" campaign seeks to strengthen the Nation's safety net program for low-income families so they can move from poverty to self-sufficiency. Members of Congress need to hear from their constituents that the current TANF law does not give families the access to education and training that they need to move out of poverty. And it does not provide the safety net to protect children. Sample letters and other details on how you can participate in this important effort will be provided at this weekend's Masses.
