Parish Sunday Bulletins

St. Charles Bulletin for April 7, 2002

2nd Sunday of Easter

from the pastor...

Dear St. Charles Parishioners,

Alleluia! Christ is Risen!

Easter is not a day it is a season. May the resurrection of Jesus offer us renewed energy for the mission of St. Charles. Holy Week and Easter were an unprecedented outpouring of faith and generosity. Never have we seen such crowds beginning with the Sacrament of Reconciliation, through the Easter Triduum to Easter Sunday.

There were many influences at work that I would like to acknowledge: the long months of preparation by our RCIA program, team and candidates; the Landings program for inactive Catholics; the Mission Team who planned a most fruitful "Catch the Spirit" experience; the work of our liturgy planners; all who offered the various roles of services, such as our singers and musicians, and those who supported Rice Bowl and outreach to Haiti, to homelessness and to the hungry.

In addition you were most generous to the parish and to the Parish Community Campaign. I welcome you to join me for a presentation and dialogue on; "Problems facing the U.S. Catholic Church today" after the 6 PM Mass on Sunday April 14th.

With Easter Hope,

Rev. Gerry Creedon

BISHOP'S LENTEN APPEAL (BLA)
The BLA is very important to our parish, as the offices, programs and ministries of the diocese provide support to us. Thank you to the many of you who have already responded to the BLA. Please return your BLA pledge.

Please Mark April 14 on Your Calendars!
St. Charles is joining Bread for the World's congressional letter writing campaign to reduce hunger in the U.S. The weekend of April 14, St. Charles will be asking you to write your representative and Senators as part of Bread for the World's 2002 Offering of Letters. Bread's theme this year, "Working from Poverty to Promise," offers another opportunity to achieve changes that will benefit families most in need. By September 30, 2002,Congress must reauthorize the Temporary Assistance to Needy Families program, commonly know as welfare. The "Working from Poverty to Promise" campaign seeks to strengthen the nation's safety net program for low-income families so they can move from poverty to self-sufficiency. Members of Congress need to hear from their constituents that the current TANF law does not give families the access to education and training that they need to move out of poverty. And it does not provide the safety net to protect children. Sample letters and other details on how you can participate in this important effort will be provided at the April 14 Masses.

IN OUR PARISH

PARISH COMMUNITY CENTER NEWS
As announced previously, the Parish Community Committee is working with MTFA Architecture to design a "Living Stone" memorial to Parish Community Center Project supporters. Specifically, the name of each individual or family who has contributed would be memorialized in a concrete way in the new building. At the last meeting, sample bricks and tiles were shown to the committee using different methods to emblazon a family name. MTFA Architecture will present additional options for materials and location before the Parish Community Center Committee makes its final decision.

TIME CHANGE:
Remember that On Sunday the 7th Daylight Saving Time begins. Turn your Clock's FORWARD 1 (one) hour.

If you have ministry pictures we can borrow, please leave them in the website mailbox in the parish office. Label each snapshot with the participants, event name and (approximate) date; plus, indicate which mailbox we should return the photos to. If you have digital photos or can scan your own then email them to webteam@stcharleschurch.org. Thanks!

THIS WEEK'S TITHE
This week tithe is for our twinning parishes in Haiti. This money helps supports operation at the parish churches and the chapels and sometimes schools and clinics as well. It means that the Church can extend its outreach services far beyond what the resources of the people alone could support.

PARISH SUPPORT

  • Last Week's Easter Collection was: $24,557.00
  • This Week's Tithe is for our sister Parishes in Cavaillon & Gross Marin, Haiti.
  • Next Week's Tithe is for St. Charles Outreach.
