St. Charles Bulletin for March 17, 2002
5th Sunday of Lent
St. Patrick's Day

Dear St. Charles Parishioners,
"Your brother will rise."
The raising of Lazarus proclaims the victory of life over all the forms of
death. In our journey toward Easter, we are given this story to remind us that
we are preparing not only for the Resurrection of Jesus, but also for our own
rising.
This week's Mission is an opportunity to intensify
our Lenten experience. Let us look again at our faith. Catch the Spirit and
pass it on! Take the risk of reaching out and inviting someone who may stand
in need of a renewed faith. St. Patrick's Day is a great Spring festival that
salutes the greening of the earth. Let's not keep it just for the Irish!
Happy St. Patrick's Day!

(Gerard Patrick Creedon)
BAPTISMAL PREPARATION
Baptismal preparation in English will be offered today, Sunday, March 17 at
12:00 noon in the Parish Library.
LENTEN EVENTS
Reserve the afternoon of March 24 - Palm Sunday: All Parishioners are invited
to share with neighborhood F in a unique experience the afternoon of Palm Sunday,
March 24. We will meet at 4:30 PM in the parking lot of St. Charles to begin
a procession of Christ entering Jerusalem.
The procession will walk around the parking lot and enter the church for the
6:00 PM Mass. Please join us. It will be an event to remember.
EASTER FLOWERS
Donations and intentions are now being accepted for Easter Flowers. You may
drop your donation, with the name of the person(s) you are remembering, in the
collection basket during Mass or stop by the Parish Office. Please remember
to mark your envelope "Easter Flowers". Thank you.
OPERATION RICE BOWL
In today's Gospel, we learn about Jesus' miracle of raising Lazarus from the
dead. Through your participation in Operation Rice Bowl, you lift up those who
suffer from despair and hunger, and you give them hope for new life, just as
Jesus raised Lazarus to new life. Your Operation Rice Bowl offerings may be
dropped off at the Parish Office during Holy Week or at the end of the Lenten
season by placing it in the large cardboard display at the entrance of the Church.
Through Operation Rice Bowl, we are challenged to think beyond our own immediate
communities, beyond our borders, and beyond our selfishness to embrace those
who are most in need. Thank you for your generosity.
