St. Charles Bulletin for March 10, 2002
4th Sunday of Lent

Dear St. Charles Parishioners,
"I was blind and now I see." Lent is a time
of illumination and conversation. We accompany
our candidates for Easter Sacraments and join
them in the renewal of our own baptismal
commitment.
Our Mission starting on the 17th will be a
time for all of us to "catch the spirit and pass
it on."
This Tuesday, Dr. Warren Reich will offer a
presentation on "Suffering, Compassion and
Healing in the Light of 9/11". This will be
especially helpful to people dealing with grief.
Pray for the Parish this week as we go before
the Diocesean Loan Committee to assist us develop
our Community Center.
With the blessing of St. Patrick,
P.S. To facilitate your participation in the
ongoing Campaign for the Parish Community, we
will offer a Second Collection at the beginning
of every month.
BAPTISMAL PREPARATION
Baptismal preparation in English will be offered
on Sunday, March 17 at 12:00 noon in the Parish
Library.
LENTEN EVENTS
All Parishioners are invited to share with
neighborhood F in a unique experience the
afternoon of Palm Sunday, March 24. We will meet
at 4:30 PM in the parking lot of St. Charles to
begin a procession of Christ entering Jerusalem.
The procession will walk around the parking lot
and enter the church for the 6:00 PM Mass.
Please join us. It will be an event to remember.
STATIONS OF THE CROSS
The Moms Ministry is sponsoring a Stations of the
Cross on Thursday, March 14th at 7:30 PM. We
invite you to join us for a quiet time of prayer
and reflection.
EASTER FLOWERS
Donations and intentions are now being accepted
for Easter Flowers. You may drop your donation,
with the name of the person(s) you are
remembering, in the collection basket during Mass
or stop by the Parish Office. Please remember to
mark your envelope "Easter Flowers". Thank you.
OPERATION RICE BOWL
Operation Rice Bowl offerings may be dropped off
at the Parish Office during Holy Week or at the
end of the Lenten season by placing it in the
large cardboard display at the entrance of the
Church. Through Operation Rice Bowl, we are
challenged to think beyond our own immediate
communities, beyond our borders, and beyond our
selfishness to embrace those who are most in
need.

IN OUR PARISH
PARISH COMMUNITY CENTER NEWS
The Parish Community Center project is moving
forward.
MTFA Architecture recently advised that a
potential variance issue with respect to the school
does not appear to be a problem. Also, our
architects indicated that the process to secure
an easement from WMATA on the Fairfax Drive side
of our site is on track.
With respect to finances, Fr. Creedon and the
Chair of the Parish Community Center and Finance
Committees will meet the Diocesan Loan Committee
on March 13.
Beginning with the first Sunday in April, a
Second Collection will be taken up designated for
the Parish Community Center. Each month
thereafter, a Second Collection on the first
Sunday will be designated for the Center. You
may use the Building Fund envelope included with
your monthly envelopes or Building Fund envelopes
that will be available at all the entrances to
the Church. If you wish to receive Tax Credit at
the end of the year and submit cash, you must use
an envelope and put your name and address on it
for proper credit.
Thanks, as always, for your continued support
and prayers as we "Build the Spirit" at St.
Charles!
KEEP CONNECTED DURING LENT
Visit your parish website,
www.stcharleschurch.org, during Lent to keep
connected with your faith community. Learn the
latest about the upcoming parish mission, read a

out who's celebrating Mass next week. You might
even want to join one of our e-mail lists, such
as for prayer requests or social justice
volunteer opportunities. What would you like to
see on the site? E-mail your ideas to
