| Parish Sunday BulletinsSt. Charles Bulletin for December 9, 20012nd Sunday of Advent
Dear St. Charles Parishioners “Prepare the way of the Lord make straight his paths” well describes our task for Advent. John the Baptist and Mary are our guides as we prepare our hearts for the coming of the Prince of Peace. We continue to celebrate Mary under the title of Guadalupe, Saturday, December 15th at 5 PM. We welcome this Latin American story of Mary’s identification with the native people of this hemisphere. John’s words lead us to the Celebration of Reconciliation (Confession) on December 17th. Let this communal Rite inspire all of us to a renewal of love and faith. In your Christmas parties we want you to give priority to our parish party at the Rectory, December 16th, 5 PM. The Parish Council, Priests and Staff welcome you, especially our faithful volunteers, to an evening of festivity. I will recognize an outstanding volunteer with the Glyne Goodridge Award at 7:30 PM. Check our Website for neighborhood and other Advent activities. With Advent Hope, Fr. Gerry Creedon CHRISTMAS FLOWERS The Parish Office is now accepting donations for Christmas Flowers. If you wish to have a loved-one remembered, please include his or her name with your donation. For your convenience, you may place your donation and the name of your loved-one in a plain envelope. Both may be dropped in the Sunday collection basket or you can stop by the Parish Office. The list of those remembered will be published on Christmas Day, so please have your donations and names to the Parish Office by Tuesday, December 19th. Thank you! CATHOLIC CHARITIES COLLECTION DAY December 9, 2001, has been designated Catholic Charities Collection day in the Diocese of Arlington. Proceeds received from this annual effort will be allocated to various programs. Your donations have been and will continue to be one of the primary sources of funding for Catholic Charities. Last year, your contributions were overwhelmingly generous and helped almost 40,000 people. Hopefully, with your help, the members of the Arlington Diocese will be able to match that good will, as the events of last September. When you receive the brochure for the Christmas Collection please read it carefully, reflecting upon its content. Then prayerfully decide on the extent to which you can respond. Please be as generous as you can. The services Catholic Charities provides are available to all in need. ADVENT IN OUR PARISH PARISH COMMUNITY CENTER NEWS We are still accepting contributions for Fr. Stewart Culkin’s Memorial Fund. Please make checks payable to St. Charles Church, Fr. Stewart Culkin’s Memorial Fund. Thanks to everyone who stopped by the Parish Library to review the updated design plans for the parish Community Center. We appreciate your feedback. We also wish to express our continued appreciation to all those who are “Building the Spirit” at St. Charles through our Capital Campaign. For those who are contemplating participation in the campaign, we encourage you to make your gift or pledge by December 31, 2001. Thank you! P A R I S H N E W S Do you have a busy toddler? TOP PARISH PAGES FOR NOVEMBER Advent is a very popular subject, judging by the traffic statistics for your parish website, www.stcharleschurch.org. Advent –related terms beat the usual favorite, variations on “Saint Charles Borromeo,” as the most popular key words on external search engines that led a visitor to the Parish site. Our home page and celebrants schedule remained our most popular pages, followed by several different Advent prayers. The most popular news story for the month? Eric Heinen’s recap with Gail Goodridge’s photos of the Death Penalty Moratorium event. Adult Education edged out Social Justice again in the battle of the ministries. And once again, over 100 visitors read Fr. Chuck’s house blessing. Visit us this week for Advent reflections and more. COLLECTION · Last Week’s Collection $ 17,347.15 · Last Week’s Tithe of $ 1,734.76 was for our sister parishes in Cavaillon & Gros Marin, Haiti. · This Week’s 2nd Collection is for the Catholic Charities Christmas Collection · Next Week’s tithe is for St. Charles Outreach.
