St. Charles Bulletin for October
21, 2001
29th Sunday in Ordinary Time
FROM OUR PASTOR
Dear St. Charles Parishioners:
"Love your neighbor as yourself!" This is the law of Christ.
Our neighbor includes the service men and women who are in harm's way
as well as the innocent children of Afghanistan. Yet love of neighbor
begins with the person next door.
Next weekend we renew this commitment through our parish
neighborhoods at a special 5PM Mass. Mark the 29th in your calendar
for a presentation on the Catholic
Church and the death penalty.
Peace, Shalom, Salaam,

SUNDAY EVENING LITURGIES
Beginning in January 2002, St. Charles will be offering an evening liturgy
every Sunday at 6PM. The schedule will include monthly youth Masses, liturgies
focussing on social justice, bi/multi lingualism and special interests

to help plan one of these masses each month. If you are interested please
contact Gail Goodridge at 703-271-9436 or Regina DeLeonardis at 703-241-9533.

SOCIAL JUSTICE
NEWS
FOOD PANTRY
Right now we ask you to give generously-the shelves are almost completely
bare. Any non-perishable items you could give would be most appreciated!
Thank you all so very much for reaching out to the hungry right here in
our neighborhood. Please bring your donations to the Parish Office.
SPONSOR OF THE WEEK: Our Special Thanks to Alex Johnson, Insurance
Agent, for his support.
Ministry
We
know that following Jesus means we begin to share God's life here
and
now. We do not view life's purpose as the gathering of power or riches,
but as the gracious invitation to live for God and others in love.

The diocesan office of Catechetics and the Catholic Distance University
are offering an on-line seminar, The Sacraments of Initiation, from October
22 - November 9. Registration begins on October 10 at CDU's web site (www.cdu.edu)

"Many
thanks to all Parishioners for their generous and continued support
of the Operating Budget of St. Charles. Our weekly collections, which
also affect our weekly tithe, have been consistently above our budget

financial support helps demonstrate to the Diocese our parish strength
and commitment during our Build the Spirit Capital Campaign. Please
keep up the good work!"
