Parish Sunday Bulletins

St. Charles Bulletin for September 23, 2001

25th Sunday in Ordinary Time

from the pastor...FROM OUR PASTOR

Dear St. Charles Parishioners:

"Prepare a full account of you stewardship!" We often think of our stewardship in regard to money. This aspect of tithing is an important demand of discipleship. However, this weekend we focus on stewardship of our time and talent. We commission the members of our Parish Council to the work of fostering the growth of St Charles community. Next weekend, our Ministries Volunteer Fair at the School Cafeteria provides an opportunity for all to learn about the variety of ways we may offer our support to the mission of St Charles. You will learn about ways of offering your time to: Community Life, Liturgy, Education, Social Justice, Hospitality, Youth, Stewardship, Neighborhood. The Latin American Community will also share its ministries.

Please consider and discern how your gifts may contribute to the building of God's Reign! On the first Monday of October, I will offer a presentation in the Church at 8PM on the topic: "Everything you wanted to know about the Catholic Church and were afraid to ask!" In this session I will focus on questions in the area of contemporary morality.

I was proud to be pastor of St Charles this past week. The demonstration of faith in the face of our Nation's tragedy was heartwarming: hundreds attended a special Mass on Thursday with little advance notice, a school Mass of remembrance, a special evening of prayer for our youth, an overflow for the sacrament of reconciliation and a packed church at all of the Masses this weekend. May this period of fervor have lasting effects on the vibrancy of our hope and faith.

The Iman from the Falls Church Mosque, Anwar-Al Awlaki will join me for an adult education night on October 1st at 8 PM in the Church to consider how we may build bridges to understanding and peace. Come and be apart of an important dialogue.

Peace,

Rev. Gerry Creedon

PARKING FOR MASS
ALERT!! Please do not park at the curb on the Fairfax Drive side of the church. It is a "NO PARKING" zone and you may be ticketed. We are working on the traffic flow in the Church parking lot to avoid parking difficulties. Please be patient with our volunteers - they are working very hard to help everyone. Thank you for your cooperation!

PLEASE NOTE:
· Living Stones publication will be available next weekend at the Ministry Fair
· Baptismal preparation in English, previously scheduled for today, has been rescheduled for next Sunday.

IN OUR PARISH

OKTOBERFEST IS FOUR WEEKS AWAY

The Oktoberfest committee is busy preparing for this annual event that benefits our parish school. We are looking forward to a day of fun, food and entertainment. By now you have received a letter containing you raffle tickets in the mail. If you did not receive yours, or would like more tickets, you may pick them up at the rectory or school office. Raffle ticket stubs and money/checks can be given to the Parish Office or School Office. Last year's Silent Auction was a huge success! If you have a theme-basket of goodies that you would like to donate please give Melissa Wishy a call at 703-266-4932. As you do your "fall cleaning" please set aside items for the Yard Sale. Please see the Yard Sale information and donations guidelines in the back of the church or on the parish website. If you wish to volunteer and for the bake sale, yard sale or spaghetti dinner, please contact Mike or Sabra Flaherty at 703-920-2689. Thank you so much for your continued support. Feel the Spirit!

PARISH MINISTRIES FAIR
Mark your calendar so you don't miss this year's parish Ministries Fair, which will be held after all Masses next weekend (September 29 - 30, 2001). Ministry members will be on hand to speak with you about the many and varied volunteer opportunities available to you. St. Charles believes in full employment - there is definitely a job for everyone! Volunteering is fun and rewarding, and is a great way to make new friends! Don't miss it!
