St. Charles Bulletin for August 19, 2001

20th Sunday in Ordinary Time

This issue included Build the Spirit Newsletter #18

from the pastor...FROM OUR PASTOR

Dear St. Charles Parishioners:

Further updated information on the architectural plans for our new Parish Community Center will be available soon. While we have a representative Parish Development Committee headed by Monica Craven to work closely with the architect, we also welcome your individual ideas and suggestions. Look out for announcements that will advise you about how and when you may offer your insights.

Our Community Center is an opportunity for all to become engaged in envisioning the future of St. Charles. We encourage your active participation. In addition to ideas we also appreciate the tangible support of all who pledge and look for the day soon when ALL can find their way free to participate in the pledging program.
"Unless the Lord build the house, they labor in vain"

Rev. Gerry Creedon

PARKING FOR MASS
ALERT!! Please do not park at the curb on the Fairfax Drive side of the church. It is a "NO PARKING" zone and you may be ticketed. We are working on the traffic flow in the Church parking lot to avoid parking difficulties. Please be patient and with our volunteers - they are working very hard to help everyone. If you would like to become a member of this volunteer team, please call Marvin Mayorga at the Parish Office. Thank you for your cooperation!
GEORGE MASON UNIVERSITY has made available to St. Charles parishioners, 75 parking spaces on their surface lot during Sunday Masses. The parking lot entrance is located on Kirkwood between Fairfax Drive and Washington Blvd. Please note that George Mason also uses the lot during these times and cannot be responsible for any property loss or damage. In the spirit of cooperation, we thank them for their consideration.

Respect LifeMinistry

Those of you who work in the pro-life movement are…witnesses to the truth. You proclaim what many people wish to forget, that the unborn and the elderly, the sick and the handicapped, those on the margins of life, are human beings and children of God, made in His image, and that they deserve our love and respect, especially because they are weak and vulnerable.
-Msgr. Robert Sokolowski, homily August 10, 2000

SCHOOL   NEWS
Dear Friends in Christ, Over the years, your outstanding generosity to St. Charles School Scholarship Fund (better known as Sr. B's Kids) has provided a Catholic Education to many underprivileged children. For this, we are deeply grateful. Please be assured that you and yours are remembered in our daily prayers. Again, I appeal to your "giving hearts" as we prepare to begin a new school year. No amount is too large or too small to help prepare these children for a brighter future. God loves you and I do too. Your continued support is a blessing. Checks can be made payable to "St. Charles School Scholarship Fund". LIVE THE SPIRIT! In Him Always, Sister Benedict, O.S.B.

St. Charles School needs to upgrade its classroom computers. If your workplace is upgrading and could donate used Pentium 233 Mhz or better PC's, please contact either the School Office (703-527-0608) or Randy Bender (703-527-2476). Individual PC donations or funds toward the purchase of new PC's are also very welcome.

Don't cash it!
Don't deposit it!
Turn it over, sign it, and write:

"Pay to the order of the
St. Charles Capital Campaign."

Our tax refund checks are a wonderful opportunity for us to do even more - above and beyond our pledges - to Build the Spirit and Build the Parish Community Center
Here at St. Charles.

You can simply place your check in the collection basket or drop it off at the Parish Office. Thank you again for your continuing generosity and spirit of sacrifice.
