St. Charles Bulletin for August 12, 2001

19th Sunday in Ordinary Time

from the pastor...FROM OUR PASTOR

Dear St. Charles Parishioners:

I am looking forward to seeing you again next weekend. I hope all of you have had time to be with your family and friends over the summer.

In our work-dominated society, it is necessary to focus our energies from time to time on the relationships that sustain us. May the spirit of Sabbath rest influence our attitude to worship all year long. We need to be reminded that every Sunday is intended to be a restful and a prayerful day, a little touch of summer.

PARKING FOR MASS
GEORGE MASON UNIVERSITY has made available to St. Charles parishioners, 75 parking spaces on their surface lot during Sunday Masses. The parking lot entrance is located on Kirkwood between Fairfax Drive and Washington Blvd. Please note that George Mason also uses the lot during these times and cannot be responsible for any property loss or damage. In the spirit of cooperation, we thank them for their consideration.
ST. CHARLES PARKING: We are working on the traffic flow in the Church parking lot to avoid parking difficulties. Please be patient with us during this transition. If you would like to volunteer to help, please call Marvin Mayorga at the Parish Office. Thank you for your cooperation!

PARISH OFFERTORY ENVELOPES
The Parish Offertory Envelopes have several purposes. They provide you with a convenient way to support your Parish. They also help our Parish Office track your contribution so that we may provide you with a tax statement at the end of each year. Without your name, address, and the clearly stated amount of your donation, we are unable to accurately track your contribution. If you do not wish to use the envelopes, please notify the Parish Office in writing. We would prefer you use the envelopes; however, donations in check forms are also credited to individual registrations. Please note: if you are not a registered parishioner, your donations can not be recorded! Thank you!

PLEASE NOTE
THE FEAST OF THE ASSUMPTION OF THE VIRGIN MARY IS A HOLY DAY OF OBLIGATION. PLEASE NOTE THE MASS SCHEDULE BELOW.

  • Baptismal preparation in English, previously scheduled for August 26, has been rescheduled for August 19. Please call the parish Office to register.
  • The Parish Office will be closing at 5:00 PM the week of August 13-17. If you have a meeting scheduled during this week that requires the use of one of the office keys, please call the Parish Office to make other arrangements.

Respect LifeMinistry

How can nature be effectively defended if justification is claimed for acts which strike at the very heart of creation? Is it possible to oppose the destruction of the environment while allowing in the name of comfort and convenience, the slaughter of the unborn and the procured death of the elderly and infirm, and the carrying out, in the name of progress, of unacceptable interventions and forms of experimentation at the very beginning of human life?
--Pope John Paul II, June 12, 1999 homily in Zamosc, Poland
