St. Charles Bulletin for July 22,
2001
16th Sunday in Ordinary Time
FROM OUR PASTOR
Dear St. Charles Parishioners:
This weekend the parish welcomes Sr Margaret Kerr of the Sisters of Notre
Dame. As a part of the diocesan Propagation of the Faith program, she
will seek to raise your consciousness of the church's missionary work.
I am happy to report that you offered over two thousand dollars to our
visiting Haiti priests.
Thanks for the support you offer our seminarian, Kevin, as he develops
a special vocation retreat. If you wish to attend call him at the Parish
Office, 703-527-5500.

The
spouses have the inalienable right to found a family and to decide
on the spacing of births and the number of children to be born. Taking
into full consideration their duties towards themselves, their children
already born, the family and society, in a just hierarchy of values
and in accordance with the objective moral order, which excludes recourse
to contraception, sterilization and abortion.

ATTENTION HIGH SCHOOL AND COLLEGE-AGE STUDENTS!!
Life is short and eternity forever, so take this for what it is worth.
No matter how many other people share similar qualities with you, there
will never be another person quite like you. God made you to be uniquely
you, it's who you are. He knows you completely, loves you unconditionally
and has called you to enjoy perfect happiness in heaven. Then why wait,
what's the hold-up? The reason is simple - eternity follows our time on
earth and before being called from this life we are first called to be
in it. Who are you called to be? If you want to be all you are meant to
be, find out how God's grace is working in your life at the "Call
of the Heart" retreat next Sunday at 2:00 PM in the Upper Room of
Common Ground Coffeehouse. To sign up to attend please call Kevin at 703-527-5500
or Bernardo at 703-527-5500, ext.13 to speak in Spanish.
SUMMER SIX PACK
Please join Theology on Tap on Tuesday, July 24th at Whitlow's on Wilson
for a group discussion lead by Mr. Paul Bernetsky, on "The Young
& the Restless". The talk begins at 7:30 PM, followed by a brief
Q&A session. You might want to arrive early for Happy ½ Hour
and socializing. For more information, e-mail: tot@arlingtondiocese.org
or call Andrea at (703) 841-2549.
THANK YOU
Through the kindness of the sponsors that appear, this bulletin is furnished
to the Parish without charge. We feel the sponsors get good coverage with
their ads, and at a relatively low cost and we urge you to patronize them.
Diocesan Publications has done a fine job in publishing our weekly bulletin
and we hope our present sponsors renew their ads. Also, if others are
interested, please contact the Parish Office on Monday.

IN OUR PARISH
TOP PARISH PAGES FOR JUNE
The Capital Campaign jumped to #4 in June on
our list of most popular pages on www.stcharleschurch.org. Hundreds of
visitors have clicked to see potential designs for a parish center. The
parish home page kept its #1 position, followed
by the celebrant's schedule (who's
saying which Mass) at #2, and the Parish calendar
in the third spot. The ministries index rounded
out the top 5, with social justice
narrowly beating the Eucharistic
Ministers schedule. You'll find these and 100's of more pages on your
parish website, so visit us this week to keep connected. And share our
web address with a friend!
SPONSOR A HAITIAN STUDENT
Stop by the parish library after the masses on August 4 and 5 to find
out about sponsoring a Haitian child's education. A $100 donation provides
schooling and supplies for one year. Members of the Haiti Committee will
be available to tell you more, sign up new sponsors and accept current
sponsors' renewal checks. Thank you for your generosity!
INTERESED IN CHILDCARE DURING MASS?
Please join us in an organizational meeting to brainstorm and plan a new
solution for Childcare during Mass. We will meet on August 3rd at 10am
in the Parish Library, spilling out to the playground, as children are
welcome. If you can't join us in person on Friday, please contact Rose
Holiday at 703-522-8336 or email: Roseholliday@hotmail.com,
to share your ideas - or to volunteer to spend an hour with our littlest
parishioners occasionally on Sundays.
RIGHT TO RECEIVE THE EUCHARIST
Every Catholic within St. Charles parish has a right to receive the Eucharist
at least weekly. Our Eucharistic Ministers bring Communion to the homebound.
If you know someone who is unable to come to Mass, call Eleanor Werthmann
at (703) 821-3483 to arrange for Communion to be brought to that person.
- Last Week's Collection: $14,490.25
- Last Week's Tithe of $1,449.03 was for St. Charles Outreach.
- This Week's Tithe is for A-SPAN.
- Next Week's Tithe is for the Good News Jail & Prison Ministry.
