St. Charles Bulletin for June 17,
2001
Most Holy Body & Blood of Christ
Capital Campaign Newsletter
#14 appeared in the printed version of this bulletin
FROM OUR PASTOR
Dear St. Charles Parishioners:
Thirty-three years ago yesterday I
was ordained. Five years ago I was assigned to St. Charles. I celebrate
both of these milestones with appreciation for all the support I have
found to our common mission here in Arlington. Every week brings a new
dimension to that gratitude. Let me give you two current examples of the
Spirit at work at St. Charles.
The "Build the Spirit Campaign" to
develop a Parish Community Center has taken a leap forward. Last week
we developed a goal to open the new building by September of 2003! Our
Parish Center Development Committee has worked with the architect, Michael
Foster, and has agreed on the interior and exterior schematic design for
the Center. We will share our plans on the weekend of June 23-24.
Thanks to the growing number of households who come forward to pledge
their support, I have renewed confidence in our success in this historic
venture. "Feel the Spirit" is the motto for our school. We received
a glowing report from the Design for Excellence evaluators who recently
accredited St Charles school. Mr. Tim McNiff the Superintendent of Diocesan
Schools writes; "Sr.Benedict's spiritual leadership is embodied in
the motto 'Feel the Spirit' which began as a way to describe the sense
of family and community that is evident at the school". Check last
week's online bulletin for a fuller report.
Thanks, Gracias,

Ministry
The
radical nature of the challenges posed to humanity today by the progress
of science and technology, on the one hand, and by the progressive
secularization of society, on the other, demands an impassioned effort
to reflect more deeply on man and on his existence in the world and
in history. It is necessary to show a great capacity for dialogue,
for listening and for proposing, so that consciences may be formed.
--Pope
John Paul II, March 3, 2001

IN OUR PARISH
WEB BIRTHDAY CELEBRATE CONTINUES
Your parish web site, www.stcharleschurch.org, turned three years old
earlier this month. Look for birthday features online throughout the month,
such as highlights from the past year, a view of what
our site looked like originally, and an overview of what
it takes each month to keep the site going. What would you like to
see on your parish site next year? Email webteam@stcharleschurch.org
to let us know or to get involved.
POOR FAMILIES NEED YOUR HELP!
Every month through our Project Lazarus Fund, we help low income families
with emergency assistance-for rent, medical expenses, etc
This past
month we helped 15 families who would otherwise have faced eviction or
had utilities cut off. While there are many other community agencies that
offer help, few offer rental assistance. Section 8 vouchers rarely cover
the cost of housing. Our funds are running low and we need your help.
Please consider donating to the Project Lazarus fund at St. Charles? These
funds are used only for emergency assistance. Thanks for your generosity!
NEIGHBORHOOD D FATHER'S DAY
PICNIC - TODAY!
Today is the day for Neighborhood D's Father's Day picnic at Quincy Park
behind Arlington Central Library between 1:30 and 5PM. We will provide
drinks, hamburgers, and hotdogs. If you can, please bring a side - dish
or dessert to share! Look forward to seeing you there! Questions? Call
Monica Beaston at 703-528-4359.
