St. Charles Bulletin for 10-22-2000

29th Sunday in Ordinary Time

from the pastor...FROM OUR PASTOR

Dear St. Charles Parishioners:

Mission Sunday is an opportunity to exercise “global solidarity.” This term is increasingly used by the US bishops and by the Pope to describe the universal dimension of our call to faith and love.

I had the opportunity to “Be a missionary” for 4 years in the Dominican Republic on the Frontier with Haiti. The experience was for me a faith-transforming event. I was deeply touched by the way faith and the struggle for a better life in a more just society were wedded. Our sister parish relationship with Haiti gives St. Charles as a community a way to enter into the church’s outreach. Sponsors who support the education of a needy Haitian child know first hand the joy of accompanying others in their journey of faith. The Philippine Medical Mission is another instrument parishioners have created to reach out. Through secular professions in the field of international relations and development, many parishioners have a way of being a missionary. In addition to the Mission Collection, let us reflect on other ways to make global solidarity concrete. You may share your ideas with and seek information from our Social Justice Coordinator, Micheline Toussaint.

Our prayer goes out to our recently deceased Kathy Burke and Joe Hagarty, and their families.

Peace,

Rev. Gerry Creedon
