| FROM OUR PASTOR
Dear St. Charles Parishioners:
This weekend, we invite you to our Volunteer Fair.
Come and learn about our ministries. Consider the gift of your time to the
mission of St. Charles. I especially seek some assistance from bi-lingual
volunteers who could assist with justice issues affecting the
Latin American community.
On October 2, you are invited to the first of a
series of presentations on The Church and Politics. Fr. Joe Hacala,
former Director of the Campaign for Human Development will lead us on a
reflection on the Bishops Pastoral on Faithful Citizenship.
The church is non-partisan. We are called however, to reflect on candidates for
election in the light of the sacredness of the human person and our teachings
on social justice.
At the Volunteer Fair in the School Cafeteria, we will have a table for the
Capital Campaign. Come join the many who have pledged
their support to a New Community Center.
Peace,

SPONSOR OF THE WEEK: Our Special Thanks to GMC Services for
their support.
Society has a right and duty to defend itself against violent crime and a
duty to reach out to victims of crime. Yet our nations increasing
reliance on the death penalty is extremely troubling. Respect for human life
must even include respect for the lives of those who have taken the lives of
others. It has become clear, as Pope John Paul II has taught, that inflicting
the penalty of death is cruel and unnecessary. The antidote to violence is not
more violence.

Be sure to look for the 4-part series in the Arlington Catholic Herald on
Faithful Citizenship Using Church teaching as its foundation,
the Herald will discuss areas that are important this election year to help the
rest of our Community and nation; issues relating to immigration and refugees.
It is a great opportunity to learn what the Church teaches on these subjects,
